we don't have a lot of crime here. lots of car break ins of tourist cars, beach grab and runs by teenagers. we have domestic violence, we have a murder maybe once every few years. ice is a huge problem so I am sure a lot of crime stems from that. if my husband was going to be a cop I would feel fairly safe about him being a cop on maui. I can't remember if our newspaper does a crime beat or not, it may I just don't read it if it does. you also mught want to check in on the maui police website.

Very little violent crime. Most of that (sadly) domestic. Very little gun crime. (But occasionally.) Lots of drug offenses, break-ins/theft (home/auto/cycle/bikes), forgery, etc., but even that tends to be crime-of-opportunity. None of it "minor" if you're the victim, needless to say.

Best of luck.

Crime is very low, almost never violent. Usually teenagers doing dumb stuff.

hi

call the maui police ... and ask them directly ....

the county fair was last weekend ...i saw lots of cops standing around ..... why were they standing around ....cause they had very little problems ,,,reason no boooze , no booze ..does that give you a clue ...

i live in kihei ... very little hits the newspaper so its hard to really tell

come and visit ..ask questions its not the mainland

call a ferw attorneys ...why ...cause they might help with ...who and what they are representing

most people on here see very little of what you are asking ...ie law observant unless you consider traffic tickets as a major crime ...

come visit and learn ...then find out what they might be hiring ...

most are local ... most are local

and thats a fact ...

Hi vanboingy,

Crime is low on Maui, hardly any gun crime, and as a woman out alone I hardly ever get the skittery scared feeling. Don't listen to the troll who just posted - one post with inflammatory text to get a reaction - listen to those of us who have lived here. I don't know if I believe that crime is covered up here because of the visitor industry... I think in part we don't hear about some of it because the news stations don't sensationalize it either.

If you are considering joining Maui PD, be aware that they are not as advanced as other, more-funded PDs. Newbie rookies get the lesser work, your husband would have to be OK with that and also the skepticism of the veteran officers that he'll stick it out. I would guess too many hopefuls join up and don't make it here due to cost of living or other mis-match, and end up leaving the force. Or veteran offices from other areas may come here expecting to come into the Maui PD and have the same status level - not going to happen, all newbies start at the bottom.

I'd suggest your husband come out for a visit and have a scheduled interview with the chief... maybe talk to a few officers too.

sounds like truthwave may have had his car keyed while on a trip to hana. big deal. there are not plenty of unsolved murders here. our crime here are punks taking advantage of tourists leaving their cars unlocked and bringing their wallets and cameras to the beach with them. we have domestic violence and a few other crimes but it is hardly a hot bed.

years ago I talked to a rookie cop and he said he had to do time either in hana or on molokai before they stationed him to town, his choice. sorry I don't remember how long it was or if that is still true today

Low crime rate. In fact if you are considering a career in crime this might be a good place to move. Lack of competition.

However when the police chase you it looks stupid because you just circle around the island.
