I know all of Maui is a haven for the wealthy (like Aspen, St. Barths, Scottsdale, etc.), but which areas in Maui is where the wealthy live?

Try realtor.com and limit your search to multi-million dollar homes.

Default Hardly a Haven

Have to agree. Maui is very mixed economically and geographically. Job availability and real estate prices dictate local concentrations, but I can't think of an area on Maui that doesn't have some diversity.

Granted, resort areas like Kapalua and Wailea have very high property values, but each is bordered by lower-cost housing -- some quite old, quite small (in square footage) and quite dilapidated.

Many of our part-time "superstar" owners have properties in agricultural districts like Upcountry and Hana. Other celebrities tend to blend in, and hardly raise an eyebrow when asking for dinner reservations, etc.

The most expensive real estate (psf) tends to be on the waterfront, predictably. Celebrities who stay at hotels get much more attention than those who own property here.

Hope we're not deflating your expectations.

I do not live in a rich neighborhood, but there is a guy here who bought a house and is spending a lot of time and $ renovating it. He is very very wealthy. Don't know why he chose this neighborhood...

That's pretty much it. They're scattered here and there, everywhere on the island. About the only thing they have in common is that they seldom live in condos or apartments.

Then again, there are people living in condos and apartments who are very, very rich compared to me.

Sheesh, in Beverly Hills, you can just buy a map...

It is true...Maui is a haven for all of us, even the not so wealthy. You never
know who you'll be rubbing elbows with on the beach or who may toss down their beach towel next to yours...

Depends how you define RICH. If you mean people with billions of dollars, they generally don't live on Maui but they own vacation homes here, among other places. On the other hand, you could say that if you live on Maui you are rich... because just living here you are surrounded with beauty and warmth and aloha. So maybe a person with little wealth who is happily living on Maui is much richer than a fat cat billionaire who has to worry about his money and always looking over his shoulder.
