Hi.
I'd like to hear from residents of West Maui, Lahaina etc. regarding frequency and intensity of annual Kona Storms. The area's known for year-round nice weather and I'd be interested to know how it otherwise affects your lives.
Thanks.
Ned.

I should say this also applies to anyone who just has an opinion or has experienced one while visiting.
Mahalo!

We see pretty strong kona winds and rain here in Ka'anapali, but only once or twice a year. This year has been particularly dry, but we did have a good day of rain (and surf) last week. In the past ten years we've had winds that rocked an outdoor ceiling fan to the point that one of the blades broke off and went through a window and rain that has flooded our pool, but each happened only once. We rarely see more than two "rainy" days in a row, usually between November and March, and only once or twice each year. Gusty winds are more frequent, but we haven't had any damage other than the broken fan. Lots of plumeria leaves in the yard, but nothing unusual.

Cheers!, 'Not! I had a feeling it was something along those lines. Did a search previous to starting this thread, but didn't find any data. I'd imagine crazy fools surfing in Pa'ia. Riding the Konas.

Google the Maui storm of January 1980. A tropical depression formed right over maui county and the bigger island. To this day I've never seen a storm like that one. A Kona storm if ever there were one. There's still the concrete slab from an outdoor shower sitting in the surf on the south end of Kamaole 1.

Aloha and okoledakine

Wow! I'll look for that when I'm by Kihei, this spring.
