Aloha! The title pretty much sums it up. I just turned 29, and I don't want to move back to Oahu cause it's just getting more and more crowded. I don't want to move to The Big Isle, either, because I might get bored. I'm thinking Maui would be ideal for me. What are the best places to live there for a hot, young, single wahine like myself? LOL! I've read lots of good things about Kihei. I also like my times to be laidback, but I know I can drive to other places on the island for that. What do you experts think? Mahalo for all replies and input!

Mily

Maui Meadows is a good place to start, it's above Wailea next to Kihei. Kihei itself can be a little seedy, especially at night. Napili, Kaanapali, Honokowai also not bad for a hot, single wahine. Don't live in Lahaina town, it's similar to Kihei at night. Lahaina and Kihei are great places to meet people, just don't live there.

If that were the case, why do so many people live in Lahaina and Kihei?

I disagree with the post about Lahaina and Kihei being "seedy", whatever that means. South Kihei has some of the finest beaches on Maui, and Lahaina is pretty much a young persons party town. Renting a cottage in Maui Meadows would probably set you back quite a bit, whereas you could get a reasonable 1 bedroom apartment for $1200-$1500 a month.

Obviously things are always relative to one’s viewpoint and that is the reason why this forum is so interesting and amusing to read…

Kihei town and Lahaina town are very “touristy” party towns, to put it mildly and if you live there in a 1 bedroom apartment, you will have - as a HOT, young and single wahine - drunk or high guys knocking on your door all night long, at a minimum.

If you were a single guy, ready to party, I would recommend Kihei and Lahaina, but if you are concerned with safety and a good night’s sleep, live in Maui Meadows or north of Lahaina town.

You can always rent a room inside a house or get a small studio ohana, that way you are protected and safe and will not spend a fortune.

Drunks and guys who are stoned knocking on her door all night long? That's total and complete nonsense. Nice way to totally misrepresent a community. Of course the cannibals might get their hands on her! You've lived in Hawaii for how many years?

Aloha and okolemalua
