The National Weather Service Flash Flood watch, which went into effect at 6pm tonight, will remain in effect until 6am HST Tuesday. Merrily, merrily, merrily, merrily... life is but a dream.

The wet weather (from the cold front that passed through the islands over the weekend) is likely to continue through Tuesday night.

Another weather system is forecast to move over the state by Wednesday, bringing more rains later in the week.

Wnds will also shift to the south, bringing vog and muggy conditions on Wednesday.

Rains not expected to go away until later this week

Rain, with the slight chance of thunderstorms on Oahu and Maui County, is expected over the state for much of today and the wet weather is likely to last until Friday.

The National Weather Service said an area of heavy showers was headed to the Waianae Coast and the North Shore late this morning.

Cloudy conditions, showers and bouts of heavy rain are expected until Friday, forecasters said.

Oh my!

Maui County got the most rain overnight. In the 24-hour period ending at 5 a.m., Lanai City and Kahoolawe got about 2.5 inches.

For perspective, that's about what an average mainland state gets in a month.

When it's not raining, forecasters say the weather will be muggy and there's a chance of volcanic haze blown over the islands by Kona winds.

Forecasters canceled a flood watch for Oahu, Kauai and Maui counties and a winter weather advisory for Big Island summits as a weather system capable of generating thunderstorms moved away.

It was a heckuva winter weather advisory while it lasted... snow and ice and sleet in the vicinities of both Mauna Loa and Mauna Kea, with snow drifting across Saddle Road.

But the system may return Wednesday night, possibly bringing more heavy showers.

Tradewinds should return by Friday, finally bringing mostly sunny skies and the usual windward and mauka showers.
