My wife and I are having a little trouble finding work here. We've done some online searches and some cold-calling. I'm a bachelor'd degree holder in the Liberal arts. She's a Chinese translator.

Can anyone suggest some places (besides craigslist) to look for some work on the island? Thanks.

Where are you having trouble finding work?

What is a bachelor's degree in "Liberal Arts"?

Does that mean that you completed a first year philosophy course, can't work a computer, and look on Craigslist for job opportunities?

What sort of employment is at an all time low? That is simply untrue when describing industry.

Industry in general is fine. Oil has crashed and the Canadian Dollar has crashed. Some industry is immune from the oil price flocculation, and real estate will plateau, not drop. The 2015 recession will be like the 2007 recession ... everything but engineering jobs (and related expenses) were static. The only time that the real estate market crashed was in 1995 and that was due to a natural fluxuation in the market investments and weather, not an artificial drop in the price of oil.

What sort? Hawaii. Unemployment is at historical lows. It's called record tourism.

OP, what kind of work are you looking for? What kind of experience do you have?

Are you living in Maui yet or just thinking of moving?

perhaps your wife can contact the hotels to see if they might need someone and the tour companies. I do see every now and again people wanted who speak Japanese. you two may have to take what ever is available until something opens up for you

Obviously some of us must be doing something wrong. I am 66 and cannot find work. I've applied through Indeed.com, Careerbuilder.com, Monster.com, not to mention multiple temporary agencies, and the only thing I've been offered is washing and cleaning cars for rental car agencies. I've lived in Hawaii for 17 years. I have over 30 years experience in accounting and office administration. The food stamp people have denied me because they say my social security benefit are too high for me to qualify, so I can only afford to eat once a day. Where are these jobs so many of you think are available?

Maybe a Walmart greeter? You need a reality check - 66 year old people are not easily employed.
