Hey all-
I need to find a place to stay for four adults in January. Our co-workers are staying in what they call "elegant condos" in Kapalua Golf area. While that is lovely I'm sure, we tend to prefer more funky, easy going places--we're musicians, not so much businessfolk, and love cool and different experiences. (We've never been--I only get the impressionthat Kapalua is more sterile from the description from my boss. Is that accurate?) I've been given the job to try to uncover a cool place to stay. Would love to find a private home to rent. Doesn't have to be right on the water, though that would be nice being whale season, but it should be somewhere between Lahaina and Kapalua. Any advice? Many thanks--respect, kate

I just looked at The Maui News (online -- print version classifieds are different), Craigslist, and VRBO (Vacation Rentals by Owner), and there are lots of good options depending upon your location preferences and budget. Some are oceanfront and hotel-touristy, some are more like local/semi-local condos. If you're more specific about what you're looking for, you may get better (more) responses.

Best of luck.

No matter what you inquire about, PHONE, don't email the owners and explain what you want. You will have drastic price drops from the pre-recession pricing that is on the internet. Half off asking price is not out of the question.
