I've been thinking for a while this is a noisy belt, but last night I noticed that it only makes the noise when the A/C / heat is on. It started last night at a red light as I put the car back in gear and started to move. I reached over and turned it off, and it immediately stopped. So I'm sure it's related to the A/C or heat in the car. Sounds like a belt sqealing. Any thoughts on what it could be and if I need to not touch the heat until it's fixed or if it needs to go in immediately or what?

It could very well still be a belt squealing, Mrs.
The A/C pulley could be the culprit. A quick trip to the shop should be able to determine the problem and a quick inexpensive fix now could very possibly eliminate being stranded on the road when you least expect it.
I had something very similar, and yes, the noise is very annoying. Mechanic hoisted the car, determined a bolt was loose. It was tightened, and the annoying squeaking went away. Done. Total cost: $0.00.
However, I did have to invest a few hundred dollars for a new battery and alternator, since my car didn't feel like starting.

A loose or worn belt will squeak. Does it squeak when you run the AC or when you run the heat?
You could have a noisy blower motor. Does it make the sound when you run the vent too?

When is the last time you had your belts changed?
Thanks to everyone! Guy1 you're making me hopeful!
I'll be taking it to the mechanic for a look-see.
slcpunk, I've not had it that long. It was a birthday gift. I wanted a project car. stupid stupid stupid......
I'll have to play around with it Monday to see. Not sure if it's only when heats on or if it's only when the compressor runs or what. Just don't know. And I've not changed any belts. As a matter of fact, it's not needed any work really. I just need a new top. I'm tired of getting rained on.
Check your belts. I had the same problem with my A/C belt on my Honda. I had recently replaced the belts and didn't tighten that one up properly. So anytime I turned my A/C on, the belt would start squealing. After I tightened that belt up, it was perfectly quiet.
