Hi! I'm doing well and I hope the same for you.

That's such a horrible story. There are dozens -- hundreds -- of these stories all the time, I know, but when put into context, they are even more horrible.

Hi! Thanks! I'm not sure why I still get lured to the CT forum, but I find myself popping on there every once in a while. I hope that you're doing well.

Burlington VT has been my home for 4 years, and I absolutely love it, but I'd like to explore Portland, Oregon now. Have you been? Would you say the two are comparable minus the obvious size increase? LOL

Well, Burlington's winters are a lot colder. The mountains around Portland are a lot bigger. Also, Portland's liberal culture is a lot more historically entrenched whereas that of Burlington is based on a lot of people from metro NYC, Boston and southern New England in general moving up there over the last 25 years (with a lot of 'natives' moving out).

I'm probably not the best person to ask this, I've never been to Portland (though I do have a cousin there who is a southern Calif. transplant, of which Portland has a significant amount of) and my experience with Burlington is a few trips up there in my college years (back in the late 80s) and spending about a week up there a year ago while interviewing for a job that would've involved a possible relocation to that.

Good luck and I hope that's at least a start.

I am wondering if you can tell me the difference, in depth, between Burlington, VT and Portland, OR besides of course the size?

As someone who would also like to move into teaching full-time in the future I have been following your posts with interest. I hope the New Year brings much well-deserved success for your new teaching career in the beautiful Nutmeg state!
