In my experience (my wife is Mexican and most of her relatives are not tall) there is almost an inverse correlation between heights and machismo.

In humboldt park, you see a lot of 5ft tall guys driving large SUVs and trucks, often needing side steps just to get in their vehicles.

Where I am from in Rural Indiana, compact pickup trucks are looked at with disdain as well, with the view that men drive full size trucks. In all fairness we average 6ft, so for me at 6'2 compact truck would be tight fit and I am only 185lbs.

I live in Oak Park just south of Chicago avenue near Oak Park Ave. It is not that diverse. South of lake and especially east of Ridgeland it is less affluent and more racially diverse.

My wife is Mexican and we have few Hispanic neighbors though we do have black family next door who live in 1.2mm dollar house.

There are a lot fewer black people in Oak Park than 20 years ago, though I do see more Hispanics (mostly shopping and eating here- I know a lot (like the lady who cuts my hair) come from areas like Berwyn and Elmwood Park and Galewood for better amenities).

I think we will see more and more Hispanics in Oak Park, particularly dinks in apartments.

Oak Park is becoming land of limousine liberals as you have said.

Obamacare does not work because youth healthy people continue to opt out. It only works if you force everyone to participate and you also need to go to single payer system and cut private insurance companies out. Health insurance should be only available thru the govt and eventually this will happen but only after big battle with big pharma. There is a reason why same drugs cost less in Canada.

I have degrees in Econ and I also believe that people are mostly rationale. Game theory drives many of our actions and people will cheat if they believe they can get away with it.

I think treemoni exaggerates the number of trust fund babies within the hipsters. Not everyone who moves to Pilsen or Logan Square can afford to live in Lincoln Park. Some are actually starving artists (albeit most work at places like Starbucks or local stores).

Oak Park is nice in large part because it has nice larger homes that the poor cannot afford. Parts of Oak Park look like River Forest and other parts look like Berwyn. Oak Park stayed nice because it priced out the poor and resisting block busting by cherry picking black professionals. Most of the wealth in Oak Park is west of Ridgeland and north of Lake. These areas are less than 10 percent black.
