I too also get discouraged with the "city fathers" lack of interest in bringing more jobs to the Smith County area. My business is good. In fact I was just named Rookie of the Year for 2008 through Coldwell Banker United in Tyler. The people that I'm selling houses to are people that are coming from other areas of the country, who are coming to an already established job. I'm not getting anyone who is looking to move up or move within the county. Also...my calls for "retirement" homes have really dropped off. There is a larger interest in people wanting to live right on I-20 due to the fact that it now takes 30 to 45 minutes to cross the city in traffic...which if they are going to commute to the East DFW area...adds way too much time to the commute. The other battle I fight is with people who worried about rearing children here...due to our "good old boy" image. It's a shame that we can't seem to get past it. In time it will come...but I'm constantly reassuring people.
