Maine, New Hampshire, and Vermont seem to be among the few places left in the US where you can still live well. I too wish for real seasonality.

We hardly even have that "precipitation" of myth and legends that would create fog these days. I think I'm already screwed though, I got accepted at UMaine already and I haven't heard back from UNH yet. I don't think there's anything I can do to get out of it, even if my mother has a house in either state.

I haven't left yet, but that's almost a rhetorical question. Almost ANY state is better than California, I'm still stuck at a crossroad between UNH and UMO. I like the appearance of both of them, but people and academics are another thing entirely. I'm a transfer, not a first year, and I'm bringing my mother with me.

The water situation has gotten very bad and it's not going to get better, I don't want to go to school here and my mother can't find work anywhere in dental hygiene. The in-state tuition and living expenses at a UC here alone would STILL outweigh out of state in ME and NH, so I have zero motivation for CA. I like bucolic and low population, especially colder weather.

I'm not going to be pessimistic about some white outs, mud season, and humidity when I know that's a lot better than living in a soon-to-be desert.

Did you have some similar reasons for leaving Ceres?

Come weigh in! I think the masses would benefit from your opinion and experience.

Thanks submariner. We found out that the sellers knew the house was under contract, but wanted a backup offer. Perhaps they are worried that their sale won't go through.

We are back out looking at other houses tomorrow and hopefully will find something.

We really like it here (Bangor area) and are anxious to get settled.

Yeah, Sub, that's pretty much what I was thinking. I may have caused that whole incident due to my own ignorance. Now I know better. Thanks!

Not quite the way explained to me by a vet here, but will believe that. However if you retired after 20 you have Tricare which is a healthcare policy so you are covered.

Hey Submariner, Have you seen any activity on the "abandoned" pipeline? They are coming your way from the north and clearing all brush from the right of way.
