Most of the blacks in Oak Park live between Austin and Ridgeland. There are very few blacks west of Ridgeland. On my block there are 2 black families. We live 2 blocks west of the high school just north of Lake.

You are about Forest Park. Most of those dining and buying stuff at the cute shops are yuppies like my wife and I who live in Oak Park and River Forest. I do think the area will improve just as Berwyn appears to be on the upswing as young people move there who are priced out of Oak Park.

Schools will continue to be crap in both Berwyn and Forest Park but influx of Hispanics may actually improve things as they push out poor blacks. Still, most of the yuppies will move on once they have kids and need better schools.

Is being a City-Data.com nerd an elite club?

I'm not sure what the point of the "friends" function is on this forum. I certainly have nothing interesting in my profile that I would need to restrict access to.

I've lived lot's of places, so Madison really doesn't explain anything. I didn't really feel that I was surrounded by liberalism until I went to college. My Mom is from Northwest Indiana and my Dad is from a very conservative town in Wisconsin. I'd say that my so-called "liberal streak" stems from the fact that I'm not a moron. But I really am a centrist who is wary of the far left in many ways. I didn't vote for Blago or Todd Stroger in the last go round.
