I found out today that our frost date is May 10. I have a long way to go. I also found 4 cu feet bags of vermiculite at one of the local feed places for $19.97. I think I can do better at my farm supply. I'll check this week.

Very cool. When is your last frost date? You will start before me. We have four 2"x10"x14' pt boards that our solar panels are on. When my DH moves the panels I am going to use that wood and cover it with plastic. It's been outside for awhile and since I plan on covering with plastic it should be fine for my gardens. I am doing three 4x4's. Hopefully we can get our solar panels moved in time.

Lets talk about gardens. What kind of wood are you using? What about trellises? I am still in the planning stages. I am using some leftover PT wood that we have but I am going to cover it with plastic. I have to check my farm supply and see about stakes/trellises for tomatoes, beans, and cukes.

A few months ago I started to link my pictures to a map of Downtown Raleigh I created using Google Maps. This is an ongoing project which I hope to refine over time. Click on the map image below and it will take you to the interactive Google map with links to pictures of Downtown Raleigh neighborhoods and landmarks that I have photographed. You can click on the place markers and a picture of the neighborhood or landmark will "pop-up". I will add to this map as I take more pictures in the...

Until recently I never spent more than $6.99 for a six pack of beer. As a result I’ve spent a lot of long weekends consuming Miller Lite and Pabst Blue Ribbon. Thanks to some of the great people on the Triangle City-Data forum (Props to Mike Jaquish and NewUser) I have discovered the joys of local beer. Being a resident of Raleigh I was thrilled to learn we have two local breweries in the area.

The Big Boss Brewing Company is located in Raleigh and the Carolina Brewing Company is...

As my username suggests, I live in North Raleigh. However, that does not mean I don't enjoy the beauty of the many historic neighborhoods in and around downtown Raleigh. I highly recommend people new to the area check out the areas of Oakwood, Mordecai, Boylan Heights, Five Points and Cameron Park on a nice spring or fall day. The architecture and mature landscaping to be found in these neighborhoods is quite a site to behold. I like to take pictures of historic homes as a hobby and have posted...
