I think you recently moved from the Chicago area to Nashville. I have a good friend that is considering doing the same. Any feedback you could provide? Pros/cons thus far? Please honest feedback only. I am trying to convince him to stay (mostly out of selfish reasons since we've been friends since grade school!) but I've also generally read good things about Nashville so it might be a good fit for him and his family. If you feel like sharing your experience I'd really appreciate it, thanks!

Good luck trying to debate IrishIllini. They are still trying to justify their Chicago home purchase last year. Illinois has major issues. Taxes need to go up (sucks but true) AND spending needs to be cut, especially with regards to public pension sector.

36 percent savings is impressive on 200k income. Do you take international vacations or eat at nice restaurants?

57 percent would be on your new income with 25 percent reduction for your wife.

Wife and I save around 40 percent of income of 300k but we live in apartment in Oak Park but take 1 international trip per year (not Caribbean) and eat lunch out everyday in addition to 1-2 nice dinners out each week. We each buy new cars every 7 years for cash (40-50k). We do not have a lake house or a boat or other expensive hobbies(golf membership etc).

IrishIllini bought their first home in Dec 2015 in Chicago and is trying to justify their purchase.

My wife and I ate hesitant to buy another (our 3rd) home out of concern for rising property taxes and overall pension obligations.
