We're in the Illinois plan not Iowa. The only tax implications I'm aware of with out-of-state plans is not being able to take the tax deduction for contributions to the out-of-state plan. We only did the OH plan because Bright Start had had management issues in previous years with the non-Vanguard funds and didn't want to put all eggs in one basket. I believe we can rollover one 529 to another as you would IRAs. My recollection is I spent a lot of time reading thru articles on Morningstar when we were deciding what to do and talked with our CPA to confirm my understanding of how they worked. It takes a while but the money will be parked for a while so take your time to decide, especially while the market is doing so well. Hope this helps. Happy 529 hunting!
