I was bed-bound for 1 year; given up on as people didn't think I could survive. I rose like a phoenix from the ash. These pictures show me in bed and the progression from lying down to being able to sit up and eventually get into a wheelchair. I had amnesia for 10 months post back surgery which landed me in a wheelchair. I was misdiagnosed with Alzheimer's Dementia and encephalopathy (the hospital needed to explain why I couldn't remember anything and instead of a correct DX they came up with that (for a 55 year old mentally stable female with no mentation problem before admission). After I was discharged from the hospital I was put in a foster care home during which time I could not fend for myself in the amnesic state and was brutally physically and mentally abused by psychopathic caregiver.
I got my memory back and when that happened I was barely over a 100lbs (I was203lbs when this all started) and she had chopped all my hair off, my legs were contracted backwards from an altercation.......well I think that's enough for now. I will live and be happy; that's how I beat this.
I was hesitant to write my story but realize people need to be aware of the rampant abuse that goes on in the adult foster care homes. I was in a total of 5 and except for the last one there was abuse. The first one was physical and the others I could hear horrible verbal abuse. Something needs to be done and I'm going to figure out what that is. More oversight is definitely needed and more education for the caregivers is an absolute. Yea; we figured out how to take care of all the elderly and disabled by opening these types of homes up but we also created a monster where fraud and abuse is everywhere.
After 2 years I am ready to tell my story.
