    Perhaps, but RE is a much safer bet for those of us that aren't savvy at trading stocks. The stock market can be volatile so it takes some skills and knowledge to be successful.

    Stocks are much better investment than RE over the long haul.

    If your property doubled over the past 20 years that gives you annualized returns of 5 percent.

    I have averaged 10 percent in the market over the past 20 years and have doubled and doubled again and then doubled again (8x original investment).

    Your RE if bought for 100k is now worth 200k.

    My stocks bought for 100k is now worth 800k.

    Even with 7 percent annual return over past 20 years 100k stock investment would be worth 400k.

    This is coming from a guy who owns house in Chicago and has extensive RE holdings in Indiana (600 acres of farmland).
