    Hi hew2a,

We moved here when my husband was transferred to the downtown Murfreesboro branch with his job. We have been in Murfreesboro now for ten years and I can honestly say that we have absolutely NO regrets at all. Murfreesboro is an awesome place to live and work and our children have been very happy. My two oldest children both remain in Murfreesboro and were determined to find jobs that would allow them to do that. To me, that says a lot about a community when you children grow up and want to stay in their hometown!

Brentwood is beautiful. It is very impressive to see estate home after estate home. Where else can you find million dollar subdivisions? But, for all the beautiful homes and meticulously maintained grounds, we felt very empty living there. There wasn't a strong community feeling and we also felt like we were "outsiders." There is so much turnover with executives in the area that it is hard for people to really have roots and connections to Brentwood. Beautiful area, but very few long term residents. I think what makes a hometown welcoming and feel like home, is the love of the area by the residents. You get that feeling here from the many people that are lifetime residents of Murfreesboro, or people like us that have moved here but plan to remain here. M'boro is large enough to offer excellent shopping, dining, and entertainment, yet small enough to still feel like a hometown.

Personally, I also like diversity and think it is great for my children, and myself to have friends from all walks of life. When we lived in Brentwood it was like everyone there was a white collar family and the dads were all execs. It has been great for my children to experience great people from various employments, social, economic, and cultural backgrounds. I feel we have all had a better quality of life, and larger circle of unique friends since moving here. The schools here are also excellent and my son graduates MTSU in two weeks after receiving a scholarship and attending the public schools in Rutherford County.

I get very frustrated with the attitude that anyone with money or anyone with ambition should only live in Williamson County. I think it is highly over-rated! The homes there are nothing compared to the value found in Murfreesboro. I have a new home listed for sale for $275,000 that is full of travertine, granite, marble, and slate. I dare anyone to touch that same house in Brentwood for less than $450,000 and it would probably not have anywhere near the same amenities and features in that home. It is amazing what people are willing to spend in order to live in Brentwood. And personally, I truly prefer living here even if the housing values were the same!

I also lived in Nashville prior to moving to Brentwood. I agree that it is a spicer and more fun place to live. While I love living in Nashville, once I had children that started attending school it became apparent to me that we needed to move ot go the private school route. We started out in Davidson County public schools, but I do believe that they are not up to par and would not send my child there so choose to move. Unfortuantely, I bought into the belief that the "best" place to live and the "best" schools were in Williamson County/Brentwood. I am so thankful my husband was transferred from downtown Nashville to downtown Murfreesboro. It has been a true blessing for us and a move that I am thankful for each day!

As far as other people...yes I hear the same sentiments expressed all the time. Since I sell real estate in five counties I work with a lot of relocation clients. Whenever I have someone moving here that wants "middle TN" with no specific city in mind, I am VERY careful not to steer them or choose an area for them. We typically spend one to two days in each area. It is always amazing to me that time after time after time, my clients will voluntarily choose Murfreesboro over Brentwood or Franklin. The comment I hear most often is it is too "materialistic" or "keeping up with the Jones'" feeling when we spend time there.

Thanks for your message. I love talking about Murfreesboro!

    Hi...

I saw that you previously lived in Brentwood but are now a resident of Murfreesboro. I was curious as to what prompted your move? I hear so much hype about Brentwood/ Franklin/ Williamson County. I have been working there for the past year. Before that downtown Nashville. I just don't get it. I understand the nice houses and it's a beautifully well-kept & landscaped city/ County. But to be honest, I can't wait to leave and get either Nashville or Murfreesboro. There just seems to be more energy and "spice". True, Murfreesboro may be a bit "run-down" in places, but the diversity and life that's in the different parts of the city makes me especially appreciate it among the Midddle Tennessee area cities. Next to Nashville, I dare say it may be the best thing going. Quality of life is good, an educated population, and a level of diversity topped only by Nashville & Antioch. But everybody talks so much about Franklin/Brentwood. I understand that's just what some people like, but those areas lack so much of what (IMO) makes a city "rich". What is your take on the Williamson County area in comparison to Murfreesboro? What brought you here? And how do you like it so far? especially in comparison to Brentwood? Have you heard any other people express this feeling/ opinion?

Sorry to just send you a message out of the blue, but I'm just curious.
