Actually, she works for Dept. of Homeland Security. I saw lots of people wondering about the Trinity relocation. Are you a doctor, nurse, med. tech, counselor, etc... My sis teaches counseling at the Texas Tech Med School.

I'm actually ready to move. The NY economy is going to hell, and after 5-6 years, I'm ready to move on. I'll miss the skiing, the college, and proximity to NYC, Boston, etc... but I can always ski in Montana. The drive will just be longer. Fewer day trips, but we can go for 3-4 days at a time. I'll do day ski trips to Bottineau.

You know what? I think my guess was wrong. If your wife was promoted, she's probably in the military and will work on the base? I also have a cute bumpersticker. It has a picture of a buck and says 'There's a place on this earth for all God's creatures....next to the mashed potatoes'. Oh, I bet you hate to move from Lake Placid and Lake Champlain! I've not seen either myself but have seen wonderful photos of both.

The Lutheran vs Baptist comment made me laugh! Norwegian Luthernans are the norm in Minot from what I've read. I'm an ex-Baptist Norwegian who has lived most of my life amongst the Finns...go figure. I am relocating to work at Trinity, which, my guess is, where your wife will be employed. I looked into this back in Nov. but was satisfied with my job, until 30 people lost their jobs and over 100 of us had a reduction in hours. I'm a 1-income household, so it was imperative I move for full-time employment.

I looked up the county you're from. That would be a ton of snow. We get pretty good amounts here. I'm moving from near Lake Placid and Lake Champlain. We're used to topography and vegetation, so this may be a bit of a shock. On the other hand, I'm from the Texas Panhandle, so I figure Minot will be similar, just with Lutherans and snow instead of Baptists and dirt. It's still farm/ranch country, so I'll be used to that. The conservatism won't bother me; I'm one of the few liberal arts conservatives (i.e. NRA sticker on the Volvo).

I hope to teach at MSU. The Dean said for me to call and meet with her as soon as I get to town when she saw my CV. We're moving due to wife's promotion, and I'm kind of an overeducated stay-at-home dad. It works for us.

Going to get kiddo enrolled at the Catholic schools, and then start house hunting first thing.

Are you transferring for an Air Force or hospital position?

Wow, coming from the East Coast will be quite the topographic and culture shock! Minot has less snow than here in Michigan's Keweenaw Peninsula but Minot will be much colder in the winter. I'm used to lots of trees, BIG lakes and hills and I think the area surrounding Minot is rather flat. I'm only committed to 1 year, so if I really don't like it I won't stay beyond that, but who knows, I may fall in love with the place. I get the impression that ND is rather conservative, which isn't a bad thing. Will you teach at the university? Is it UMD? If you want to keep in touch an easier way, my e-mail is phyllisb@pasty.net. I'm not looking for anything, just friendship as I know not even 1 person in Minot! Keep me posted on your move and how things are in Minot if you get there before me. I have to be in Minot on June 4th and will start work on the 7th. I'm going to spend as much free time (ya, in between packing!) at Lake Superior before I have to leave it. ----Phyllis

We'll be there end of April and start house hunting immediately. Don't want to live in the Holiday Inn indefinitely.

What's the job you've taken in Minot?

O.K., so now I know you're an English Prof, I am totally paranoid about my posts! LOL! I used the word 'there' too many times and my punctuation is probably off. Can you tell I was an over-achiever is college?!

I'll have to bring my Old English Sheepdog, Brinkley, there to run. When are you expecting to move to Minot?

Moving to Minot, WISH it were Hawaii!!! I really wanted to relocate there, but thought I may never see family members again if I did. I've taken a job in Minot but am having a difficult time finding housing. It's a bit frustrating, but I think I'll head out there in the next few weeks to try and secure something before I move the end of May.
