I'm looking to put together a work outing and was looking for two recommendations for the Memphis area:

1) Is there a place to get a whole hog cooked and delivered or catered on site at a park? I tried to do a Google search using terms like "Memphis catering" and "Memphis whole hog" etc. and wasn't coming up with much, so any recommendations are greatly appreciated.

2) Also looking for a public access (park, recreation area, etc.) to play volleyball. If it had sand that'd be great.

Area wise, any place within 20 minutes of Memphis, we live in hotels during the week so we have a decent amount of flexibility when it comes to which part of town for the place to play volleyball.

Thanks Mr. EMT

I don't have your exact answer, but this maybe will help until someone shows up who knows more - I'd call the larger BBQ restaurants in the Memphis area and ask about the whole pig. They all do catering, but the whole pig will be harder to come by. They can probably tell you where to look for that. I'm sure some of those who do the Memphis In May cook-off could get interested in something like that. Some places to google for contact info (type the name then BBQ then Memphis) - Tops, Corky's, Germantown Commissary, Leonard's, Interstate, Central, Gridley's and Neely's.

There are a number of nice public parks with covered pavillions and picnic tables in the Memphis area, Ellendale (we used to use that for company picnics), Overton and Audubon.

The hard part will be finding one with sand. Good luck.

Tobey Park a.k.a. Tobey Field has 2 sand filled volleyball courts. (you will have to bring your own net however)

Central BBQ caters wholehog. They also happen to be less the a mile from Tobey Field and IMPO have the best "Q" in Memphis
