She's right; now we need to see concerted, collaborative action to take the next steps forward. Some of those steps have been made, but there is more to do. Not just within the city, but regionally -- crossing state lines and building alliances for the good of the region.

"The most important investment Memphians can make is in the city’s children, said Franklin.

“I would urge you to have a strong component around K-12 education, as well as post high school education."

This is where Memphis has failed miserably and I see nothing changing. English, Math, Social Studies and Science, Memphis has graded Ds and Fs, while the rest of the state graded Bs in all four categories.

You're giving Memphis too much credit.

State averages are near always much higher than urban school system averages. Did you think you were telling people something they didn't know?

Is this why Davidson, Knox and Hamilton counties (Nashville, Knoxville and Chattanooga) are all higher than Memphis, Knox being much higher?

"Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen."

He's correct, but conveniently left out what I pointed out. It's an excuse, a fallacy, it's like someone who has committed murder pointing to others saying "Look at them, they committed armed robbery". Urban areas do score lower than rural areas, but Memphis is dead last in the Tennessee urban areas.
