....... I find it hard to believe that in your world and in your city this may be true. It pisses me off that there are still parts of the country who continue to deal with this crazy mindset..................
.......... It's all about education. I don't mean necessarily college but being enlighten to different aspects of life instead of just one way of life........ This is just silly. Everybody knows the issue is there, but not enough people are doing anything to change. This can seriously stiffle a city. Sorry for my rant, I'm just so tired of this mess.
My comments:
BINGO !!
It IS true in this city, your perception is accurate
Crazy mindset ?? yep, that's it..it IS crazy
EDUCATION ?? you hit the nail on the head...but even whites resent well-educated accomplished, and vocal Blacks
Silly ??? lol....no no try stoooopid.....
Stiffle a city ??? you bet, why do you think Memphis is so far behind ?
Tried of the mess ??...look, most of these people like the malaise, the conflict, the fingerpointing......Most are doomed, they are infected with a virus that can not be cured without 'invasive surgery' and vastly 'new blood'.......
Find a respite of somewhere else to hang...part time even, and travel more..this city will kill your human spirit, and they aren't going to change in the next two decades..if then....they will warp you
OMG! Small minded people. I moved to Whitehaven from Chattanooga, TN 3 years ago. I am a 27 year old white female and people had me scared to even go outside saying Whitehaven is a bad part of town. Now after living here 3 years I would NEVER move to Germantown, Bartlett or Munford because Whitehaven is no worse than any of them. Every part of Memphis has its "bad qualities" but for the most part if you are not involved in something shady then you don't get shot at. Like I said there is always an exception, but that also goes for the overpriced Germantown where car jackings happen daily. All of Memphis and the surrounding area is dangerous just like NYC, Detroit, Chicago, welcome to city life people.

I think it's deplorable that every time certain parts of town come up on this forum, people are so quick to post about how horrible they are. There are some great neighborhoods in Whitehaven, Frayser, and Hickory Hill. Those neighborhoods happen to be occupied primarily by African-Americans, which to many white Memphians means 'bad neighborhood'. Regardless of neighborhood safety, stability, civic participation, etc., if it's a 'black neighborhood', to some Memphians, by definition, it's a bad neighborhood. That's a shame. People who think that way are ignorant and short-sighted.
That being said, you posted a complete fabrication with regard to your comments about Germantown. If you can provide one bit of credible evidence that 'car jackings happen daily' in Germantown, please post it. Of course, you won't be able to post it because it's completely untrue. When you post falsehoods about Germantown, you put yourself in the same category of those who post falsehoods about Memphis neighborhoods.

Hahaha, have you even been to Germantown? Whitehaven and Germantown are nothing alike, at all. One is a now blighted town, and the other is a relatively crime-free bedroom community. I've lived in Germantown for 11 years now, and I've never been a victim of crime, and don't know of anyone who has been inside Germantown. Of course, there is crime, but comparing Whitehaven to G-town is laughable. You should at least check it out before you say something like that.
By the way, I'm guessing I'm the opposite--I've moved from Memphis to Chattanooga (for college at least).

Whitehaven = Germantown ?
What sort of voodoo math are you using to come up with this? Check the Chandler Reports by zip code and tell me if they are equal. Your statement is absolutely ridiculous.

It's funny how people are quick to grab on to one statement and disregard the other 90% of what Jesscamp said.
Whitehaven is much larger than Germantown. So of course there'd be more crime. Not to mention Whitehaven has the airport and lots of industry which is essentially the economic hub of Memphis so on a daily basis thousands of people are coming in and out of Whitehaven for work.
However, there are parts of Whitehaven that are just as safe/safer than Germantown. Refer to my prior post for a listing of said parts.
I like your comment about Whitehaven being a blighted town. I guess you have to go to Germantown to have a community.
What we're getting are more examples of the black racism of Memphis. By simply stating that Whitehaven is a drug infested gang haven, it must mean thay it is because you're racist.
The accurate depiction if Whitehaven as a troubled crime-ridden area does NOT make the person racist. Whitehaven has areas of beautiful homes, some which are still well kept, but much larger areas which are simply "ghetto."
Impossible to fix, since many Black People see no problem, and the White People tend to dislike being crime victims and leave.
My neighbors are black. One family from Hickory Hill another from Frayser. So are they racist
because they have I quote moved to a safer and nicer area ? By the way the family from Hickory
Hill refers to it as Hickory Hood.

No, the rest of her post was equally stupid, I assure you.

So size=more crime? Please elaborate on how this is so. Also, if what you say is true about Whitehaven being the economic hub of Memphis, then wouldn't that mean less crime? More economic activity=more money=less poverty=less crime, generally speaking, correct? Yet, Whitehaven has a much more worse crime rate than Germantown, or Collierville, or Bartlett, etc.

I never said there wasn't, but as your post insinuates, these are exceptions to the rule.

I would bet dollars to donuts that you have never lived outside of Arkansas, Missippi or TN. If you can't see that Memphis is one of if not the most segragted cities in America I don't know what to say.
My point is that Whitehaven may be the single largest subsection of Memphis there are bad parts and good parts their is one link throught whitehaven and that is that it is mostly African American. So when one labels Whitehaven "as a whole" a drug infested gang haven I would think that means that person is either intellectually lazy, uneducated, uncultured, racist or most likely a combination of all 4.
Several people in Memphis as well as on this board can not differentiate between a black neighborhood and bad neighborhood. Tomterr there are at least half a milion African Americans in the Memphis Metro area can you please name just a few "safe/good" majority African american area/neighborhood /subdivisions you would live in?
