from michigan to memphis (Bartlett, Germantown: apartments, rentals, how much)

hi.

my family is relocating to the memphis area and i was wondering if ya'll coudl give me some ideas and such. Since we have 4 kids schools are very important to us and so are the areas we are looking in. If possible maybe some links to online newspapers to give me some ideas. We will be renting but really dont want to stay in apartments if we can at all help it. thanks

Why is there a sudden influx of people from MI??!! You're the third person in the last month that I remember on here.

Memphis city schools are about the worst in the nation. So you will need to send your children to private school, or live in the suburbs in a good school district. Generalized, bottom line. There are a few (literally) okay public jr highs/HS's in the city, but they have waiting lists, etc. And you'd have to live in their district, unless they are optional (which is where the waiting lists come in).

You can easily rent a house, not an apt. No family would want to live in an apt. With 4 kids? That's not even an option, there are no apt complexes that have 5 bedrooms. There are tons of houses for rent in Cordova, because it has been annexed by Memphis and thus the schools, etc are Memphis city. However, schools are still okay since they were recently considered county.

Bartlett, Germantown, and Collierville are your other best bets. Gtown and Cville are very expensive suburbs. Would be hard to find a home for rent there.

Crye-Leike Property Management is a good website, the area's main realty company, that also does rentals. It will give you an idea of how much it is to rent a home in the suburbs I mentioned above.

Pearlbob...it might be with the FAA. There has been in huge revamp in the FAA and Michigan and Memphis swap out a lot of air traffic controllers (same with Atlanta). I also know many from Michigan that have moved down here with FedEx and IP. Just a guess though as I really don't know.

OP...what's your price range and what are you looking for in a home/neighborhood (and where is the job located?). That might help those of us who could steer you to specific neighborhoods.
