Default Interning in Memphis --- Need apt

I have a 3 month internship in Memphis and looking for any apartments that are:
---I don't want something to expensive but I understand it will be around $600-$1,000.
---It preferably needs to be furnished.
---Nice area

If anyone can point me in the right direction, that would be great.

Thanks.

Where will you be working? Downtown, East Memphis, Goodlett Farms, Medical Center, Airport, 385/Nonconnah/Southwind. There are lots of major commercial markets all over Memphis and rush hour commutes can be an issue of convenience.

I'm moving to the area for 6 months, and I have done a LOT of research. You will be able to find apartments that will allow 3 month leases; HOWEVER, your rent will increase (probably by at least 100$ a month). The Arbors in Harbor town allows for a 6 month lease, don't know about 3 months, but you could call. I suggest looking on rent.com or apartmentguide.com. It will tell you whether or not the complex offer short term leases; then you can call and ask how much more the rent will be for a 3 month lease.

As for finding something furnished, that's a little trickier (again, you can search for furnished apartments on the websites I mentioned above). The places in downtown that offer furnished suites are very high (close to 2K a month). Check out craigslist! I saw a large studio loft, furnished, in downtown for 1000$ listed last night. You may want to check out the Memphis Flyer as well.

I would refine my search to apartments in the DT, Midtown/University, Cordova, and East Memphis (preferably the 38120 zip) areas. I would also look at apartments in the suburbs. Once you get out of these areas, apartment living can be hit or miss. You do not want any apartments in the Hickory Hill, Parkway Village, Whitehaven, or Raleigh areas. I do not care how nice they look and how affordable the rent seems. The apartments in these areas are like housing projects with several low class tenants and high crime. Several former project residents that were displaced due to gentrification live in apartments in these areas. Cheaper is definitely not better.
