Default trip to Memphis being planned

It looks I am going to visit Memphis for a few days. I am not into trashy hip hop culture. I wanna hang out in greasy spoons eating Southern food talking to locals about Ellvis, Jerry Lawler, and Alex Chilton. I of course will also visit Sun Studios. Where are the cool punk rock bars? Where are the true country bars where they play Merle Haggard on the jukebox. None of this Taylor Swift baloney. Real Country! WHere is the Mid SOuther Coliseum? I need to get my picture taken outside this legendary venue where Jackie Fargo and Jerry Lawler ruled for so many years?

"May I buy you a drink?" You can figure out the rest. Where is the best place for something like this to happen? whooo!!!!!

Visit Nashville for country music Not sure that I've ever witnessed any sort of "country music" bars or scene like you are wanting.

Is the Colesium still standing?? I don't think it's been used in years. If it is, it was near the Liberty Bowl and the old fairgrounds, at Central and East Parkway.

If you want to talk about Elvis and Jerry Lawler, you'll likely want to head to the suburbs or the rural communities surrounding the city. I can't say that I've ever had a conversation that involved either Elvis or Jerry Lawler with friends in the city.

Punk rock bars? No idea. That's not really the scene here.

Country music? About three and a half hours away in Nashville. Or maybe in the suburbs or rural communities.

Women swooning over someone from Pennsylvania? You might need to travel deep into the heart of Mississippi to find a person who hasn't met someone from some other part of the country.

The Coliseum? It's still there (as far as I know), but it's an eyesore. Hopefully, it will be gone soon.

Memphis isn't what you have dreamt it up to be...

Locals don't sit around and talk about Elvis, Jerry Lawler, and Alex Chilton (had to look him up).

I graduated high school at the Midsouth Collesium, and I think that's the last time anyone's ever been in there

I can't think of any country bars. Nashville has a ton. But I think Windjammer in East Memphis is a karaoke bar at night that plays mostly country. Some of my friends go there, they say it's a redneck hangout.

You won't run into any ladies who've never met a yankee before, so that won't make a difference. Memphis isn't some isolated town in the backwoods.

If the coliseum isn't already condemned, it probably won't be long. Country bars? Errr...let me know what you find. You're best bet for finding local conversations about Elvis is probably grabbing a barstool seat at a CK's Coffee Shop on a Sunday morning. This CAN happen, but Elvis is not as popular among average locals as you'd think.

For a sample of "memphis" bars I'd recommend Hi-Tone, Murphy's, The Buccaneer, Earnastine & Hazels, or Wild Bills. Also, if you're into Elvis, check out the Levitt Shell at Overton Park. I heard his first concert was there.
