Olive Branch is a great place to live and the Schools are good. There are a lot of things for the kids to get involved in . Sports are a big thing for the boys. I have family there and I love it. I think you would be happy. Also, NO SCHOOL UNIFORMS.
Hope you will enjoy.

Gimme a break! Clarksdale, Mississippi, is a poor Southern town, with (year 2000 census) median family income of $26K (which equates to husband and wife each making about $6.50/hr). In Olive Branch the median family income was almost $61K. For comparison, in Collierville $84K. You've got to look at the TREND in housing etc. for that town -- is it on the rise or not?

Yeah I read that (Olive Branch a "poor souther town", got a kick out of it but wasn't going to respond further. Olive Branch poor souther town, well lets see I can count about a hundred 5 acre lots going up within a couple square miles of where I live, 4,000 square feet houses, etc. Olive Branch is a bedroom community to Memphis, and Desoto is the richest in Mississippi per capita income. Maybe 15 years ago Olive Branch was a "poor southern town", not anymore.
I truly think that one guy disagrees and argues just for the sake or arguing. Doen't matter if it's factual or not. He need to go to the political forum, people love to argue there. LOL

I must agree on that one! There is a way of debating opinions, but then there are people who make personal attacks and put you down and try to make you feel bad - just to make themselves feel smarter I guess. That is no way of debating. It's offensive and there is no place for that behavior on this forum.

Wow....This morning ( 8-13) I'm just getting a chance to read the posts to my Original Post last Friday....looks like opinions run a bit deep when various neighborhoods are being discussed ! Ya'll are scarin' me!!
I just want to be in a nice, quiet, peaceful suburb, and send the kiddos to a nice, peaceful, school, one with a good reputation of quality education, which I hear is in fact DeSoto Co.
Whether we move to Olive Branch, Hernando, Southaven, Lake Horn...doesn't really matter much, as long as the kids can ride their bikes in the neighborhood and visit with friends who might live around the corner.
As I eluded to, I've lived in big cities, like Los Angeles, Kansas City, etc., so I know how it works. I want to be able to leave my house in the morning and find it just the way I left it when I return that same evening...that's all.
I realize Memphis is an Urban city, and I am aware of all the trappings that go along with that....this is exactly what I am trying to avoid....so I thank you all for your responses and the general message I get is that the further I live away from the state line, the areas will be a little nicer and safer, right ??

It's not really "the state line" per se. It's just that "south Memphis" is a bad part of town. Therefore, the state line is in south Memphis, and that's a bad area. But not necessarily all the way out east. And also, any of those suburbs are way, way far from the state line, so I don't see the worry in any of that. I don't think anyone means that you have to be 20 miles from the state line.
Of those 3 towns you mentioned, Hernando is the one that is more of it's own town, no so much a suburb of Memphis. And again, it's Horn Lake, not Lake Horn.

Wasn't Olive Branch (or it may have been De Soto County as a whole) just named one of the best places to live per Money Magazine?
ETA: Why, yes, it was! It was just ranked the 89th best town to live by CNN/Money. Noteworthy - it was one of the the only two Memphis suburbs listed.
MONEY Magazine: Best places to live 2007: Top 100
ETA: Thanks, iluvmem! I totally overlooked Bartlett!! Woot! Two MEMPHIS suburbs on this list! Corrected my typo, too, Pearlbob!
