Hahaha, that's ok. I was just being a jerk. If you get a chance, you should come out some Monday.
P&H is a bar on Madison across from String & Things. They have live music, comedy, $5 pitchers.

I have been a Dentist in Bartlett for 28 years. We own both our home and commercial office property. I have also served the community as Chamber of Commerce President and Bartlett Design and Review Commission. I say that to let you know I am eminently knowledgeable about the residential and commercial climate.
Bartlett home values continue to remain strong. Our schools are among the best in the state. Oak elementary, in Bartlett, was a blue ribbon school in RED BOOK magazine several years ago, when our son was a student there. One of my best friends is the principal at Arlington High School. I sing in a music group with the choir director there. Both Bartlett, and Arlington High Schools have excellent reputations. The students at all 3 area high schools continue to receive major college scholorships for liberal arts and athletics. Arlington's mayor and Bartlett's mayor are very good friends of mine. Both cities are very well run. Crime is minimal. Fire and emergency response times are soooo much better than any where else in Shelby County or Desoto County.
If I was moving to Shelby County, TN right now, I would base my choice on convenience to work and church. If you are going to work in Cordova, you can commute down Houston Levee or 385 in about 10 to 15 minutes from Arlington. The property values in Arlington have a good range and you will recover your purchase expenses in less than 5 years.
Both Bartlett and Arlington are incorporated cities. Both have about the same system of government and legislative vision. These small cities are very resistant to the trends that affect Memphis.
Last year Bartlett was voted the best city with a population less than 50,000 to live in by the Tennessee Mayor's Association.
PLease contact Mary Crone at the Bartltt Area Chamber of Commerce for more information about both Arlington and Bartlett. This agency serves both cities.

Thanks for the reply. We moved into Arlington on Thursday of last week and are getting settled in. I LOVE IT. What a great small town!! My husband is about 12 minutes from work on I-40 and once he gets off at Germantown Parkway he is there! It is fantastic! We discovered Rizzi's Pizza and Pub and it is awesome. One thing I can't seem to get over is how nice everyone is here!!

We have been up to Memphis twice and I enjoyed what I saw. I realize there is crime and the school systems are not good (they are terrible here in Florida too!!), but we don't have kids so that isn't an issue for us. We did however settle on moving to Arlington because we were told their school systems are good, the average household income was high (usually means less crime) and we just thought the area was pretty.
I keep hearing about the 385 extentsion and apparently we are not going to be far from that. Hubby's commute will be about 15 minutes or so and maybe cut down once that opens but I am not sure.
What can you all tell me about living in Memphis.......My biggest fear is how conservative it may be...Being from Mass I am a good democrat with strong opinions, should I keep my mouth shut?? Also, once we are there is it easy to find your way around? We are living off exit 25 on I-40 and hubby works right off exit 14 or 16 (Germantown Rd). Will his commute be easy? There didn't appear to be a lot of traffic but I am not sure what 8:30 on a weekday will look like to him.

Ann,
Your question may have been answered by now, but in case I missed it in this maze of replies:
Memphis itself is a Democratic town, especially since it is majority black. The suburbs of Memphis (Arlington, Collierville, Cordova, Lakeland, Germantown, Millington) are mostly conservative, but folks are friendly. They aren't going to torch your yard if you stick a Democrat '08 sign on your lawn!
Actually, I had a Bush 2000 sign in my front yard in a predominantly Jewish neighborhood in Memphis, and my sign got vandalized often. My co-worker had a Gore 2000 sign in his conservative Cordova neighborhood, and no one gave him or his sign grief. Read into that what you will.
I myself have the polar opposite political views as you do, and if you live in Arlington, most (but not all) of your neighbors will, too. But we're friendly people in the South, so if you treat us well, we will more than reciprocate. We don't like condescension (which, with all due respect, many liberals tend to exhibit), nor do we like our values (God, guns, family) denigrated. Aside from that, we don't care who you vote for or what you believe. Fair enough?
Welcome to the Memphis area!

Fair enough, but remember us liberals value God and Family also. We also don't want our guns taken away we just don't see a need for semi automatic weapons.........Just thought I would stick a few of my views in there
And thank you for the welcome, we are very happy to be here and so far everyone is so nice!! We found a local pub/pizza place and everyone in there is always soooooooooo nice!!!

Hahaha, YES! The Democrats place no importance on family and religious beliefs!? That is the best thing I've heard all day.

Well, dang it, what have I been doing in church with my family all these years? If I'd known I didn't have any family values or religious beliefs, I could have been sleeping in on Sunday all this time!

I don't want to turn this into a political thread, so I won't. All I will say is this: Did I say "Democrats"? No, I said "liberals", and as any Southern politician will tell you, they are not the same thing. Most southern Democrats run from the "liberal" label faster than Ted Kennedrunk from an A.A. meeting.
Plus, I didn't say that liberals don't value family or religion. I said that in MY experiences (and I have quite a few, especially outside of Memphis), liberals tend to denigrate conservative values like God, guns, and family values. Don't get mad at me because liberals are always the ones undermining Second Amendment rights (even arguing that ALL of the Bill of Rights are individual rights EXCEPT FOR the Second Amendment, which inexplicably does NOT guarantee gun ownership rights to individuals); trying to get Heather Has Two Mommies and King and King put into public school libraries and taught in kindergarten classrooms; and leap through hoops to remove any reference to God anywhere outside of a church. Aside from trivial things like that, yeah, libs sure do put a premium on things like family values and God. Nice job proving my point on liberals being condescending, people.
Dang it, I really didn't want to turn this into a political thread. Anyway, back to my original point: Welcome, Ann.
