We currently live in Desoto County and are selling our house due to Memphis migrating to us.. We are looking at houses in Atoka/Munford area around the 250k range. I don't know anything about this area other than the schools seem to be very good. Are there certain areas to stay away from? We have been looking around Walker Parkway area.
Thanks! |

I have heard the Munford schools are good (from reading on here) however I would think that it's a "memphis migration" area too. Not so much as Olive Branch/Southaven are right now, but eventually I think it will be close to the same.

I totally agree with Pearlbob - people are moving to Atoka/Munford in high numbers just as they are to Arlington, Olive Branch, etc. The area is growing. Period. You will not escape Memphis migration (not sure exactly what they may mean) unless you move completely out of the region.

Atoka is a nice area, and for 250k you will do just fine. Also, you might want to check out Lakeland. Lakeland has become a very nice place to live with great schools. As an investment down the road, you won't go wrong with either location.

There was a poster on here a few weeks ago who claimed that Lakeland is nothing more than a ghetto, overrun by gangs.

Lakeland has become a very nice place to live. Cool Springs is one of the most premier subdivisions in all of TN, and it is Lakeland. Homes start in the 400's up to a cool mill. What about Oakwood around Lakeland elementary? This has also become a very desireable area. Homes have been selling out as fast as they were built. The Point is another with homes well over a million. Lakeland is one of the best areas in all of Shelby. Also, as many know there is no city tax! It is not a hard place to sell a home, even in the older section of Stonebridge.

We just moved from San Diego, CA. I love it here in Atoka so far no problems. People are friendly and very nice. it doesnt take to long to get to millington or to germantown. I live close to rosemark rd.

You can get some really great houses in that area for $250k or less. I grew up there and still consider it home, and my folks still live there. Though they've been lots of places (since Dad was a Marine), they really like it there and plan on living there until the Good Lord takes them Home. For Atoka, the best areas are (in my humble opinion) around Mead Lake and around Rosemark Rd. Walker Parkway is near Rosemark Rd., and from what I know, it isn't bad. Munford is nice, too, so if you find some prospective homes, feel free to let me know where they are (you don't have to give addresses, just neighborhood or main street will suffice) and I'll be happy to shed some light on it. Plus, I can always give Mom a call and see what she says about it (since she knows the area like the back of her hand)! ![]() |

I live out that way. Templeton Farms and Blaydes Estates are nice neighborhoods. There are new homes being constructed daily. If you'd like more info on the area just let me know.
