Cordova Annexed???
My husband & I are looking to move out to Cordova... we own a house in Harbor Town but are wanting to get out of Memphis. But what is the probablitity that Cordova will be annexed by Memphis again? Anyone know? We have been looking at houses located in Berryhill subdivision... how is this area, what about the schools? Thanks.

The only cities in Shelby county that can not be annexed are Bartlett, Collierville, Germantown, Arlington, Lakeland and Millington city limits.

My parents live in Cordova, and I remember them saying that they will probably be annexed in the next 5 years. That is something they are really not looking forward to because their property taxes are going to go through the roof. I can't remember the name of the new subdivision they live in, but their house was recently broken into and they lost a ton of stuff (including a car). So whatever neighborhood you look at I would suggest it be gated.

annex a city with no money
I don't get Memphis! They want to continue to annex areas but do not have enough money to support the areas they have now. They dont' allow for raises for police officers who are already spread thin in the city limites, but continue to annex areas. They have schools without enough books, adequate air conditioning, and yet they want to expand. Why not fix what you have first, and people will want to stay there, then work on annexing areas that people would want to become a part of. Best advice, get out of Shelby County. They cannot annex into another county, or across state lines.
Just my thought.

We just moved out of Cordova
We just moved out of Cordova and parts of Cordova are already annexed. We lived right off of Germantown Pkwy between Dexter and Cordova Rd. It was annexed approx 18mo ago. One of my daughters was attending Cordova High school and it is now a Memphis city school. My other daughter was attending Dexter middle. We received a letter that Dexter would also be a Memphis city school starting next year. I know that Berryhill, if not already, will be annexed soon. If you don't have children I guess Cordova would still be o.k. if you don't mind paying double taxes. I have to report that we lived in Cordova for almost 5 yrs and we really noticed a decline in property values and an increase in crime especially the last couple of years. What did we do?...... We moved back up north. We now live in Massachussetts. GOOD LUCK!!!!!

A lot of Berryhill has already been annexed but the schools (i.e. Chimneyrock) will not officially become a city school until at least two years from now (this was voted on last month). The flight of Berryhill is driving down the property values there because of the "scare" and everyone and their aunt are selling their homes. Frankly, there are too many homes for sale and in order to remain competitive, the home owner is having to drop their price.
As far as living in Cordova - I have lived here for over four years and my property value has increased 5% each year. It really depends on what part of Cordova you are looking into. Every house in my neighborhood and surrounding (off of Walnut Grove in between Houston Levee and Gtown Pkwy) has increased steadily and stays on the market on average of less than 4 months.
Sometimes perceptions are not reality.

Why would anyone leave Harbor Town to move to Cordova? Are you nuts? I would much rather stay in Downtown Memphis than move to cookie cutter land.
By the way, much of Cordova was annexed into the city back in 1990. Most of the rest was annexed over the last 5 years. In Shelby County there are annexation reserve areas for every city. It is easy to find out which area will one day be part of Memphis and which will not. As far as eastern Shelby County goes, pretty much everything south of Hwy 64 and north of the Wolf River to the Fayette County line will one day be part of the city of Memphis. That includes all of Cordova, Fisherville, Pisgah and Eads. If you don't want to live in Memphis, don't buy a home in those areas.

Cordova Annexation
I believe some parts of Berryhill, if not all, have already been annexed. If not, I'm sure it is almost a matter of time. Proir to moving we lived in Cordova, off Germantown Pkwy, between Dexter and Cordova Rd and that area had already been annexed. Have you considered Arlington, Germantown or Collierville?? Good luck!!!!!!

Cordova
Parts of Cordova are part of the City of Memphis. There are portions of Cordova that have yet to be annexed but will be annexed eventually. I live in the Berryhill area. I love the neighborhood. I live in Phase I and it was recently annexed. The best thing to do is to contact a realtor and look at the Shelby County growth plan which includes reserved annexation areas.

I understand that here may be areas of Cordova that will not be annexed and some areas that will not be annexed until 2013. Do you know which areas these are?
