Getting the driver's license (Millington, Brighton: transfer, centers, bus)

When I move to Shelby County, it will be from out of state, and I will have to get a new driver's license. Where is the issuing station in Millington? The internet gives a location on Union Road, but that building no longer exists.

I know a ton of people who drive up to the Millington station because it's so much faster than waiting in line around here. Are you looking at the TN.gov site?

Found it! The place on Union Road does exist after all. Another question. Are the written test and the road test hard?

The driving test varies from place to place. Some testing centers have driving courses, while others use city streets for testing. Of those that use city streets, some use minor streets, while others use major thoroughfares. I'm not sure if the Millington station has a closed course or not. (In fact, I'm not sure if any of the stations in Shelby County have closed stations.)

The written test (which is computerized) is not difficult at all.

Wait.........You have to take a drivers test in TN. It isn't just a transfer??

No, it transfers. You don't take a written test either. When I moved here, I had to bring proof of my new address, take an eye test real quick (they didn't even look to see if I had actually done it, just said "you see it okay?"), and they printed a new license for me.

Ditto for me, unfortunately for me I will have to go to the one in Hickory Hill mall, closest to my work.

sorry to resurrect this old thread, but... is it really worth the 45 minute drive to Millington to go to the station there (the others in town would be 15 minutes away). Am I likely to save the extra trip time (an hour) in waiting time?

Also, any best times/days to go??

I don't know about the other stations but I would go to Millington over going to the station on Summer Ave.
Practically every time I've been to the one on Summer people are lined up outside the entire length of the building, in all kinds of weather, and the line moves along at an absolute crawl. Not uncommon to spend an hour, or two, or even more at that particular station. I've also watched a bus load of people come into that location and be dropped off, making the lines even longer.
