Bartlett vs. Germantown or Collierville
My family and I are considering a move to the Memphis area. From what has been posted on this site it seems that Germantown or Collierville are the best spots for us due to the schools. However, then I read that Bartlett made the top 100 small towns on Money Magazine's list.
What is Bartlett like as compared to GTown and Collierville as far as family life, schools, parks, things to do?? My husband's commute to downtown would seem to be much shorter from Bartlett. THANKS for your help!

Germantown is more affluent as a whole than Collierville or Bartlett.
I think all three, though, could be good places to live.

I agree, all 3 are fine. I think the schools are a tad more "exclusive" maybe in Gtown and Cville, but mainly just because Bartlett is an older area. (Gtown is old too, but wealthy). Cville is sort of the new Gtown. If that makes any sense. People are moving to Cville at rapid speed, but Bartlett is sort of in-place already. Hard to explain.
As far as family life and things to do, it's all the same. Memphis is rather small, so people travel all over to do things on the weekends and at night. Cville would probably have the least to do right there, just because it's "newer."
I would not say your husbands commute would necessarily be faster from Bartlett. It would all depend on how far off the interstate you'd live and how construction is in the area. If you lived in Germantown and could easily hop on the interstate, I don't think the commute would be much longer.

Germantown and Collierville are nicer than Bartlett and have much better schools. Not that Bartlett schools are bad, but Germantown and Collierville schools are a lot better.

If Arlington isn't too far for you, you should definately look here. The schools according to everything I read are good and the area is beautiful. It is also easy to get into Memphis (don't know about rush hour) and to the malls and restaurants, yet it has a small town feel to it!

Why I chose Bartlett
Each city has a different feel. Bartlett is less affluent, but it is also much less congested, has as low a crime rate and every bit as good of schools. I moved here one year ago and struggled between these three towns. I chose Bartlett because it had a much more "relaxed" attitude. There is a reason it is the one that made the top 100.

Bartlett is no where near dangerous. It's one of the nicer parts of the Memphis metro area.

The only part you may have heard about being "dangerous" is the south-of-Bartlett area, around Sycamore View & Summer Ave. It's really not dangerous, so to speak, it's just kind of shady. It's a lower-middle class neighborhood that is close to lots of shopping, food, and industry, and that's made an appeal to a few crooks. Bartlett city limits is not in the least bit dangerous.
