Shouldn't Lakeland and Arlington be on the list too? I know both are very safe and I know Arlington has good schools, I am assuming Lakeland does also and both are less expensive to live in than either Germantown or Collierville.

Germantown is far and away the 'safest' municipality in Shelby County. Collierville, and to some extent Bartlett, are also very safe towns. Millington seems to have a higher rate of crime than the other municipalities (excepting Memphis, of course) have.

Mud Island Although not a city - a great safe neighborhood downtown.

The island does not feed into a decent school system. but, they do have an outstanding Montessori school there, as well as another great foreign language immersion daycare.

Yes - we have resigned ourselves to sending the kids to private school after Montessori preschool. Although the Montessori goes up to middle school...so that's an option. It's a shame though - I really do believe in the public school system. I wish those of us in the downtown area had better public options.
