Affordable, Good Daycares in Memphis
Hi, I am a native of Memphis and need help from other Memphians. I will need a daycare in a few months and wanted to solicit everyone's advice. I will be living in East Memphis off of White Station and I work close to Wolfchase and my husband works in East Memphis. Is there anyone out there who is really pleased with their daycare or know of a good daycare, preferably in the East Memphis area?
Thanks in advance!
Also guys, please no horror stories...new moms are reluctant enough about entrusting their children to others...Thanks again!

I would probably surf some of the mommy chat boards for Memphis moms and see what they say.

Bonnie,
Did you find a daycare? I too live off Whitestation and Walnut Grove and my hubby works in Arlington. I have been home with my son for 14 months now and am ready to go back to work! I am really having a hard time finding a good place to send him! Any advice would be great! Thnks!

Collierville Christian Acedemy on Collierville-Arlington Rd is a good one, as well as Central Learning Center. I also know the name and number to a woman who runs a (licensed) daycare from her home---she is in Collierville as well.
Several years a go I sent my kids to Mullins Station UMC on Mt Moriah. It was fair to good, IMO.
Whatever you decide, be sure to at least get on the waiting list at the places I have listed. Often the waiting list can be several months!
Good luck, I know it is hard to send kids to daycare, but it seems that it is sometimes necessary to have both parents working just to make ends meet.

You might check into Cordova Christian Learning Center on Germantown Parkway. It's not too far from Wolfchase. Pretty good program. And it goes up to second grade, so if you really, really like it and want your child to stay there past pre-school, you can do so. Affordable rates.

Foreign Language Immersion Center on the island is highly recommended by everyone I know who have kids there.

Mullins United Meth. is fantastic, but it's a Parents Day Out program and you can only send kids there twice a week (state law). If you just need a couple of days of childcare, you can't do better than Mullins.

Sorry if my question is stupid, I don't have experience with this. Do you have to belong to or attend the United Meth. Church to use this service?
Can someone recommend affordable occasional part-day childcare that is not affiliated with church/religion?

It's hard to find part-time childcare in Memphis that's not associated with a church. Many churches offer Mother's Day Out programs, and children attend for about 5 hours a day once or twice a week. The ones I'm familiar with do not require membership in their church or any other church.
