Is Germantown Municipal Court Fair? Can I get a failure to appear dismissed with a valid reason?
I recieved a failure to appear for minor traffic violations in Germantown, TN. I fell on hard times and had to leave Tennessee and simply could not get back. I called the court and informed them that I was out of state and they told me to send a letter. I asked could I fax it and they said no. they never recieved the letter in time and thus I have a failure to appear.
I have called the Germantown Court and was informed that there is now no way I can avoid an arrest. I was also told to bring a lawyer when I show up. They hold court every Wednesday night at 6 pm. The only thing is an attorney is super expensive with most wanting $1000.00. Also, the Germantown Municipal Court staff won't even tell me what my charges are. They say only a judge can tell me.
So now I am saving up for a lawyer as court staff has told me not to appear without one. The lawyers all advise that chances are I will be arrested no matter what and spend time in jail. Anybody have any experience with this? What's the chance of getting the Failure to appear dismissed as it is a criminal violation in Tennessee.
Please advise.

What type of violations are we talking about; Tickets or something more serious like DUI?
