Is Memphis and its Metro area really the most violent place in the United States?

It has been ranked that way. It is a very dangerous place in areas, and does have a ton of crime.

The Memphis Metropolitan area is rated as the most violent metro area in the United States. The city of Memphis is rated as one of the top 5 most violent cities in the United States. Please understand that violent crime in the city of Memphis is concentrated in certain sections of the city. Not every part of the city is horribly violent. The violent sections of the city are South Memphis and North Memphis and to a slightly lesser degree, Whitehaven, Parkway Village and Hickory Hill. Some sections of the city see very little violent crime (Downtown, Midtown, East Memphis, Cordova).

see, on here, you here the EXACT opposite!
every area is violent, all the time.
just stepping out your front door you should expect to be carjacked/mugged/shot/raped
not necessarily in that order...

I think things get misunderstood on here a lot.
Not every area of Memphis has violent crime. But, a majority of areas are prone to SOME crime. Even some of the nicer areas of Memphis will have shady looking people wandering around at times. I don't worry about being shot in my front yard, but I would also never leave a wheelbarrow or a lawnmower in my front yard without me being there to watch it.

This is absolutely absurb. I'm sorry, but you do no good on a forum like this. There are people on here who honestly try to help others with their questions, and then you have this. Ridiculous statements used to scare people for no good reason. Funny joke.

I don't understand how they determine these statistics. I refuse to believe Memphis is more violent than East St. Louis, Opa-Locka, Gary, Flint, or Camden.
Maybe someone can enlighten me?
