Default Arlington to Airport.

Arlington to the airport........How long is the commute? Mapping says 17 miles but I know during rush hour it will take a lot longer than 15 minutes.

I just applied for a job out there and am wondering if the commute would be too much. Hopefully it will be during off times, but we shall see.

In rush hour, it would be well above 15 minutes. Any hour of the day, you couldn't do that in 15 minutes. I don't know all the new roads out there, but I would imagine you'd have to take 40 into town, south on 240 and around to Airways? That would take forever in rush hour. Maybe there is a faster way around now.

Pearl it only takes about 10 minutes or so on the interstate to get to 240 split from here, you don't have to go into town to get on it, or atleast it doesn't seem like you do. I will have to drive it one day to see if it would be worth it.

Right, but during rush hour it can take a lot longer. Then you have to go around 240 and into the airport area. I used to do this everyday, both around the north loop, and around the south. It is not a 15 minute drive But tons of people do it everyday, it's nothing unheard of.

During the rush, your biggest problem would come from a three-mile stretch (or close to three miles) beginning at Sycamore View, then to where 40 meets 240, then over to Walnut Grove. Once you're past that, you're in good shape. Sometimes, however, getting through that stretch alone can take more than 30 minutes.

It also (at least used to) back up going towards downtown around the Perkins exit on the south loop. They redid the exits around that area a few years back, so maybe it is better now.

I had some spare time on my hands Saturday, so I took a drive up to Arlington. You've been raving about it so much, so I had to see it for myself. The town square is very nice -- small, but nice. I was very impressed with the neighborhoods; they definitely did not have as much of a 'cookie-cutter' (I hate that term) feel as neighborhoods in some of the other suburbs. I think it's because scattered in the new neighborhoods are old houses, including a few shotgun shacks. Arlington definitely had a charm that none of the other suburbs (save for parts of Collierville, I suppose) can claim. The neighborhoods were modest, nowhere near as pretentious as Germantown, Collierville, or parts of Midtown and Downtown. And you have the basic necessities -- supermarket, banks, restaurants.

Overall, it was quite impressive -- especially for this area.

Everything you just described is exactly why I love Arlington, it is adorable and I really hope it stays this way. We are in a kind of cookie cutter neighborhood, but houses aren't on top of each other and we are still under construction, I mean serious construction at this point. It will be interesting to see what happens when it is complete.
