Apartments within close commute of Millington?
Hello all. I am considering taking a job in Millington. I was looking at apartments in Bartlett because I read Bartlett was a decent area, that is until I read a post that said the Summer View Rd./Sycamore View Rd. area is shady. Are apartments in the Raleigh Lagrange/Sycamore View Rd. area worth considering? I am not looking for upper claas. I just need a cheap, clean 1 bedroom apt. in a decent area, $500+/-mo price range, no drug dealers and low crime. I don't have any kids and am not married. Any suggestions that would keep me close to Millington?
While I'm at it, what does high speed internet cost and who are the providers?
Thanks in advance for the advice.

Personally, having just moved from that area in the last few months, I would strongly advise against it. There's at least one person who occasionally visits the board who would disagree.
If I were you, I would spend some time in that area before committing to a lease there. I would advise you to drive through some of the apartment complexes in that area at night to get a feel for the kinds of activities that would be occurring near you.
Best wishes.

If you are talking about the apts on Sycamore View, north of Summer, I agree with Strumpeace (I think) I have had friends around there, and at night, while it was not an all-out gang warfare, it did seem shady. People hanging out in teh parking lots all night standing around at their cars, staring at you when you drove by. People constantly walking around all hours of the night. Kids of all ages running around 24/7 (where are the parents?!). I have no clue what the area is like on a regular basis, I didn't live there. But from visiting friends, I could tell that I would not be comfortable there.
Have you looked into downtown on the island? That would be a straight shot to Millington going north and I have known others to make that commute for work. You might be able to get a small 1 BR, possibly in Riverset, for that price.

Oh, and Comcast is the only cable provider here. You can also get Dish Network and things like that. Comcast is HORRIBLE, their customer service is horrendous, and they are expensive. I long for the days of Time Warner.

I suspect I am the "occassional visitor who disagrees." Gosh, the way people run down Millington, you'd think it was all trailer parks and rednecks. I have visited Millington off and on since 2001, and I have found it to be a nice mix of people. Sure it has a pokey one-horse feeling, but some of us like that. And it IS improving. I will probably be moving there in the summer of 2009. If I should want a dazzling social life, nothing would stop me from hopping in the car and driving 10 or 15 miles.

Not one negative word has been written about Millington on this thread. I mentioned that the area around Raleigh-LaGrange/Sycamore View was not a great area, imo. That area is in northeast Memphis, not Millington.

River Trace and Sycamore Lakes were some I was looking at. Here, I think this map will help clarify what I'm looking at (where the bulk of the push pins are concentrated). I realize $500+/- is not a lot for an apartment, but if these apartments are the shady type, please recommend some that are within a 20+/- minute drive of Millington that are acceptable. High speed internet is essential. Thanks again.

Your link isn't working, but I think we get where you are talking about. The Summer/Syc View area has a ton of apt complexes. I think we've described the majority of them well.
I reccommended the island downtown. I'll stick with that Also, anything in Bartlett and north Cordova would be 20 or so minutes away. I can't give you exact names anymore though, it's been a little while since I lived there.
High speed internet is available anywhere in town. We're a pretty big city here.

Yeah the forum is doing something funky with the link. Anyways, thanks for the help. The hunt goes on I guess.
How long is the drive from Cordova to Millington?

Agreed, not on this thread. But on other threads, there is a fair amount of criticism about Millington.
