It is a little older neighborhood. I would try to stay East of Bartlett Blvd with most of your choices in Bartlett. West of Bartlett Blvd gets closer to a not so nice area called Raleigh.

Don't rule out East Memphis. Richland Elementary is a great option, and all the White Station schools. Grahamwood Optional program is fabulous.

My husband is interviewing for a job in Memphis, and I just visited Germantown for the first time a few weeks ago. I visited Farmington Elementary, and loved it. I also liked Houston Middle. I have an appt with Dogwood Elementary in April. Both Dogwood and Farmington are supposed to be excellent public schools. All of the schools in Germantown that I visited had strong PTA programs, which was nice. FYI, my husband is a physician as well. I had heard so many people tell me I'd have to do private, but I was VERY pleased with the public choices in Germantown that I visited. Riverside K-8 in Germantown is also supposed to be good.

We've heard great things about Germantown as well. But rentals are a tad more expensive and since we're going back to residency, we have a smaller budget to work with.
Thanks for the advice to stay East of Barlett Blvd. It seems from what I heard, the farther NE you go, the nicer it gets. I have heard that the schools in Barlett too are great. Is it too early to be looking for rentals when we're moving out there in June?

I assume someone will be working downtown since you said residency. The Snowden option is an excellent one. Also, Idlewild is a great choice. Both are in Midtown minutes away from Downtown. Most shopping options can be made by walking, biking (Memphis has become very bike friendly), or a short car ride. As I have stated before, I rarely leave the parkways. Midtown is great for culture, fun, eating, etc.

Edit: Nevermind, I just read your a suburbanite. Germantown would be my choice.

Ya we have looked into Germantown. On the pricier side but probably worth the extra cost from what i've heard! Thanks!
And yes, he'll be doing his residency downtown.
