So i just received my MLGW bill and was shocked. My most recent bill is the highest bill I've had. It was more than 20% higher than the previous month. After looking at the comparison I noticed that the average temperature was only 3 degrees less than the previous month. Can 3 degrees make that much of a difference?

I understand that it was a pretty cold month but I've never had a bill that high. I started to think that there was something wrong with the MLGW meters....Anyone else shocked at their most recent bill?

Have you checked your last few bills to confirm they actually read the meter as opposed to estimating? On numerous occasions when I was living in Memphis, they would estimate for a few months and then when they finally read it, if they had been underestimating, you would get slammed with the extra all at once

Yep,

I just noticed that they have been estimating my water for 8 months. I just read the meter and they have underestimated by about 100 units. I am about to get slammed on my next bill.

Where can you find out if they have been estimating? My bills says "meter read on xxxx". Thanks.

If it says meter read and gives you a recent date, then they have probably been reading it. IIRC, it actually said estimated on xxxx instead of read on xxxx.

I just checked my account online, and my bill is high too! Looks like they've raised non-energy fees and the price per unit for natural gas. And due to the polar vortex, I used more gas than ever before. Sigh....

Mine was only $3 dollars more compared to last year same billing period but I used more electricity this year. Did you compare you're bill to the previous year billing cycle? I find that my utility bill is very similar to the previous year's same billing cycle. So I'm able to predict cost. I did get a new street light fee charge since I'm a Memphis city resident of $1.08. One of the few charges that I'm not bothered by since I do value having street lights.

This was our highest MLGW bill since we moved here 11 years ago. It has been cold this winter.

I had this same issue too! Last bill was $188 and this bill was $380! and the kicker is, we've been out of town for the last couple of months. We left our thermostat at 64 degrees.
