Cordova Athletic Club (the one at Club Pkwy) doesn't allow anyone under 12 to use the facilities other than for organized lessons and to use the pools. Otherwise, it's all off-limits, so the age of the child would be a factor.

by the Wolfchase Toyota dealership...close to the mall. How much does an inspection go for here? Also, I haven't registered my cars in TN. Can I get the cars inspected before I do that?

You have to have them inspected before you register them, and before you renew it every year. The inspection is free. The registration is....$100 or so? I don't even pay attention to it, you gotta pay it.
It's hard to say whether that is incorporated or not. You'd have to look at your exact address. But if you have a kid....is he in city or county schools?

You can't register your car in Tennessee without inspection, but the inspection is free. It's a giant time-sucker, but it doesn't cost you a dime (for the inspection itself; tags run over $100.)
Unless you're right off of Dexter, you're in the city of Memphis. If your child is in public schools, if they're in a Shelby County school, you're not incorporated and you don't need an inspection.

Most counties and municipalities in Tennessee do not require inspection. IIRC, the only ones that do are the ones that have been labeled non-attainment areas by the EPA based on air quality standards. Thus, Memphis.

Memphis had inspections long prior to our designation as a non-attainment area in 2004; Memphis began inspections back in the 1930's. http://www.cityofmemphis.org/framework.aspx?page=604
The city of Memphis and the counties of Davidson, Sumner, Wilson, Hamilton, Rutherford and Williamson are subject to inspection/emissions testing.

Usually it's just larger cities that require this, ie where there are more people, there will be more cars, thus more pollution to take care of. It's not a major hassle at all. Just get to the inspection site maybe 15 min before it opens, hopefully you'll be one of the first in line. The inspection itself is maybe 5 minutes, if you car is running well and works fine. go in the middle of the month when there will be less people there.

We're in Cordova, Off Walnut Grove and we do not have to go through inspection. :]
Bellevue Church as well as Hope Pres has basketball leagues for families. My husband plays in both.
