Default Mixed Couple Moving to Memphis??

My family is relocating to the Memphis area. I am white and my husband is black. We have 2 kids. My husband is originally from Memphis area. We are seriously looking at Desoto County area and also Bartlett, Lakeland area. That is what is in our budget. So my question is how do people take to mixed couples and our mixed kids? In the city we currently live in there is not an issue, now when you get out of the city it gets a little scary.
Please no haters or bashing my family. Honest answers would be very much appreciated.

Memphis, the city, is about 70% black. The suburbs are more white of course, but still...Memphis is a very urban, black city. You won't feel out of place here, or "look different" at all, I don't think. I'm sure, just like in any city in the south, you might run into some old school white or black folks who give you an odd look now and then. But overall...who cares who you marry? I think in this day in age in an urban city like this, people have better things to concern themselves with. Good luck to you, and I hope you enjoy the city.

Not going to be a problem for the most part. I've seen inter-racial couples in all parts of the city and also in the suburbs.

I live in Lakeland..there are mixed families here, and mixed kids at my kids schools, we moved from CA bout 4 yrs ago to Lakeland into an apt, then bought our house here, we love it, and so will your family...we will never leave

You wont have issues. If you do move to lakeland, and your kids are elementary, or middle school age, let me know, I will have my daughters look out for them. I have a 6 year old daughter in 1st grade attending Lakeland...and a 12 yr old daughter in 7th grade at Arlington middle....

Good Luck!!

You'll be fine. There are lots of mixed couples and bi-racial children all over the place. Come on down!

Sadly, you will get most of your funny looks from the black people here.

lol... i'm asian and my husband is white, although we live in a very good community (walnut grove lakes) right behind Hope Church. so far, we haven't had any racial comments directed at us, but we're also a young couple with a new baby, and most of our neighborhood are older couples with high school kids I think. i've always thought living close to a church with a popular gathering always helped the neighborhood as people keep an eye out for each other, and many of your neighbors tend to be church-goers as well.

Default Memphis

While Memphis has racial problems, it is a pretty liberal open minded city. I've lived here 14 years and have seen my share of prejudice, as another posted above it comes from both sides. It basically boils down to pure ignorance. It is my hope that you and especially your children would not be confronted. Overall, the City is full of decent God fearing people so please have faith in our communities.
