High School Question.
Myself and my son (16 years old) have just moved into the Cordova area of Memphis, and are trying to figure out which school he'd best be suited for. We're moving from a suburb of Washington, D.C. in Virginia, and so far the only two that we've been strongly recommended are Houston High and Collierville High School.
Are there any parents, locals, or students out there with any insight as to which of the schools is the better one for him to go to? Any input is greatly appreciated, thanks.

Are you living in the city or the county?
What school district are you living in?
Both Houston and c
Collierville are county schools and Shelby County Schools requires proof of residence.
They want to see your property tax receipt, utility bill, apartment lease, ect.

Right now we're in Cordova, we just now moved here, and we've been able to find reasonable priced apartments in either school zone, the only question is what school is better at this point, should have been more clear, right now we're not in a permanent home, we're staying with a relative (in the Cordova area, about 5 minutes from Germantown PKWY)
When the time comes to register him, we'll have all the proof of residence.

From what I've heard, they're both good schools. I work with a lady who moved specifically into the Houston zone for her daughter.

Both are good schools. But generally Houston is considered the best public school in Shelby County. Followed by Collierville High and Germantown High
I'm completely unbiased on this. I don't go there, and don't have children attending there. It's just the general consensus of me and my friends.

I sure would like to see the data to support that premise.

I don't recommend Germantown High School. It's gone downhill and is now considered to be not the "good high school," in Germantown. Houston or Collierville would be the right choice. Visit both schools, perhaps.

I have lived in Collierville for 10 years and from what most people say Collierville is the preferred school. My daughter is a junior at the school and has done well. She makes all A's and made a 32 on her ACT. There are a lot of AP classes. Houston may be getting better since the Southwind High School was built and they are slowly transitioning the kids out of Houston. There were some "gangs" type kids who intimidated the students and helped kids with money find drugs. I spoke to a student who went there and they said the teachers were intimidated by some of the bad element and did nothing to correct the situation. It may be getting better though. Collierville is tops in my book since I have a child that goes there.
