What about Bartlett or Millington?
We may be moving to the Memphis Area because of my Husbands Job. I have been searching the best schools and places to live and have noticed that Collierville and Germantown keep coming up. I think that the rent may be too high for us so I was trying to find another area with safe good schools and affordable Rent. ($900 for a 3 bedroom).
My husband will be working in East Memphis, His employer said it was between Bartlett and Collierville? Does that make sense? He is willing to commute up to 30 -45 minutes, More if we have to.
Does anyone who is familiar with the area have any suggestions for us?
Some of these forums are scaring me about Memphis, He hasn't accepted the job yet, though it would be in his best interest career wise to say yes.
Thanks

Collierville is growing and it is nice, it is, however, way out there.
From my home in north Shelby county it is an hour's drive to Collierville.
If it was me, I would want to be a bit more centrally located unless both of you intend to work in Collierville.
Bartlett is the tenth largest city in Tn.
There are many modestly priced homes available as well as many luxury type homes.
You can get whatever you need in Bartlett without having to go far.
Millington is growing and it is an area in which, I believe, the property values are going to go up. If I was looking for a home, then I would spend a bit of time looking in Millington.
Last year I went to the Lucy Garden Club plant sale in the Lucy section of Millington. Older neighborhood. Stable, quiet, reasonably priced. Nice.

I'm not sure what you will find for $900.00 for a 3 bedroom in Bartlett or Collierville, but you would be more likely to find it in Bartlett than Collierville. Just make sure you are in the city limits of Bartlett. There are some sketchy areas on the edge of Bartlett (in Memphis annexation reserve but still unincorportated county) that realtors and landlords try to pass off as Bartlett to the unsuspecting.
Millington is a growing area, and it isn't much further up to Atoka or Munford. Depending on the time of day (so long as it isn't the height of rush hour with accidents on the roads), you should be within a 30 to 45 minute commute. Depending on the area of East Memphis he will be working in, this would also be true from Desoto County (Olive Branch area) where you might could find something for 900 for a 3 bedroom.

I've never heard of it, but I googled it up and it looks like it is not actually in Bartlett.
I could be wrong, but it looks like it is in Memphis.

It's a nice-enough apartment complex, but it is not in the Bartlett city limits. It's in Memphis and accordingly, goes to Memphis schools.

Bartlett Heights is the only affordable decent apartment complex in Bartlett. There are only two or three apartment complexes that are actually within the Bartlett city limits. And at least one of those is in the Egypt area, which I would not recommend.

I would not live there. The Arbors are okay, but most apartment complexes are not family-friendly. Loud parties at night, younger kids all over (early 20's), thumping music in cars driving by...
I would rent a house if I were you. And like people said, I don't think that is officially Bartlett there.

It definitely is not Bartlett. I live in the general vicinity and you don't reach the Bartlett City limits until Hwy 64 - about 2 or 3 miles north.

You really have to watch for those things. Companies advertise certain ways to draw in more customers and to sound more appealing. Even the casinos - "Right outside Memphis!" Yeah right. I live in midtown and constantly see houses advertised as "Central Gardens" when they most definitely are not. Same with out there, if it advertises as a suburb, make sure it truly is. It makes a total difference for property taxes, schools, car registration, etc.
