Winchester Elementary School (Memphis: employment, car, teacher)

Could anyone tell me a bit about Winchester Elementary School on Boeingshire Road in Shelby County? It looks like the teacher student ratio in 1/14, so that makes me wonder if there are some high needs there. Is it an alternative school?

It's not an alternative school. The teacher student ration takes into account all paraprofessional staff, assistants, librarians, etc, so student/teacher ratios are misleading.

What do you want to know about it? It's in a rather rough area. Are you considering it for your children, considering a move, or considering employment there?

It's not an alternative school and it's no longer on the state's high priority list. (It's meeting standards now). I really don't know a lot about it other than the fact it's in a rough area. Are you currently in the Memphis area?

I don't know much about that school other than:

1) That is a rough area and
2) A little girl was run over by a car while crossing the street there last year.

I seem to remember being a meeting several months ago where someone was praising the principal of Winchester -- but I can't place the meeting, the person, or the context. Early onset Alzheimer's, I suppose.
