Athens, GA...I read older posts that described the people around midtown as sort of artsy-hippie type people. The townies around Athens were a lot like that. Of course, the university is all frat boys and whatnot
Thanks for the help! I figure I'll look at 4 or 5 of those places and then just drive and look for "For Rent"

Cooper Young is definitely artsy. But remember, a lot of midtown includes old mansions, so there are really, really wealthy families living in the area. It's definitely not all younger kids. But there are certain areas that are younger people and not families. There are also some very run-down areas of midtown, not safe areas. It's a complete mix.
Good luck and be sure to post if you have more questions after the weekend!

$29K? Oh, yes...
...depending on the bills you have. You can easily find housing for less than $700/month. If you have a car note, student loans, credit card debt, etc., it may be tough, but it can be done. Good luck on making your decision...

I'm very lucky--I made it out of school with no loan debt, my car is paid off, and I have one credit card with the limit of $500 that I pay off every month.

Very lucky!! I hope you enjoy Memphis, I'm so glad to see you are coming in with a positive attitude. We need more of that here. The "Memphis is horrible but I have to move there and I'm so scared" attitude is deflating for me as a current resident.

I'm still a bit nervous, but I am excited. I've spoken to people I'll be working with and they say "I swear it isn't as bad as the reputation makes it out to be!"

People who live downtown and in midtown tend to have a much better attitude towards the city. I think that they tend to be more "urban" and to enjoy living in areas that offer a lot of culture, even if it means the area might have a little more petty crime.
Other people who have kids and dogs and etc want a huge home with a yard and fence and great schools....and of course, they are going to prefer the suburbs for that. But if you are young, downtown or midtown is great. You are renting, you don't have kids in school, and I think that the younger you are, the more you tend to be willing/able to put up with some "bad" things (ie, bums, panhandlers, etc).

Spoke to someone at Midtown Apartments near Overton Park. I was calling about Park Terrace---apparently they sold that property. They have 2 one bedroom units opening at:
St.Regis
Stratford Place
Anyone know about these?

Hi there...those sound familiar, but I'm not certain. Do you know the addresses? I'm think St. Regis is at Avalon and Poplar but I'm not 100% sure.

Ugh, for some reason I can't find the exact address. They are owned by Midtown Place Apartments which is located at 2095 Poplar. I believe they are near the office there.
Edit: Also, The Pinnacle? 302 S. Bellevue Blvd.
