Good to hear. I was thinking more about noise on Union though. On Wednesday nights downtown there is a biker club that meets on Beale, and you will hear many loud motorcycles all night driving down the street to get to and from downtown. And on weekends, Union is a major street for young kids to get downtown to cruise on Union with their stereos blaring. Plus, being right next door to a major hospital, you get a lot of ambulances and police turning right at the corner of Bristol and the hospital. Just something to keep in mind.
This is sort of what I meant when I first said, $29k is not a lot to live on here. IN Memphis, you pay for safety and area of town. So, it is possible to live on that type of money, however it might not be exactly what you're looking for.
Also keep in mind although I'm sure you know since you saw it, Bristol is not walking distance to anything. Unless you need to go to the ER. I guess Tops BBQ has a little shack across the street too, and that place is pretty good.

I'm pretty sure I'm going to go with a 6-month at the Bristol. If I hate it, its only 6 months. If I love it, I can extend it.

good to hear, I hope it works out for you. Just keep in mind there are plenty of other great options downtown and in midtown, if that doesn't work out. Bristol isn't really downtown or midtown It's sort of in that grey area in between....more "medical center" I guess. But it is new, and if you are wanting something new like that, that is basically your only option in midtown. Downtown, of course, is basically all brand new renovations.
You might want to re-think the apts on the island...they would be closer to downtown than Bristol (barely) and are also basically new construction. Riverset is the only one that is "old" (early 1990's maybe?). At least it's a safer area, and you'd be able to walk around safely all day and be near some stores/restaurants.

Well, we talked to someone my dad knows who is president of a bank up there. Apparently the Island has a brown recluse problem...
Like I said, after 6 months, I may have a better idea of what I want.

haha Yes, there are more bugs down there, just because of where it's located right on the water and below bluff level. I'm not sure how serious of a problem it is; I've known a ton of people to live in homes and apts there and no one has mentioned anything about a serious issue with bugs. I'm not sure I'd nix a house purchase there over that, but if it's something that bothers you than definitely nix the apt search down there.
Definitely give us an update when/where you find your new home! Looks like it's going to work out for you in a week after all. I'm glad it didn't get drawn out into a major ordeal.

It looks like we are going to put a deposit on The Bristol. My BF's dad may be able to go over and take pictures of the unit for me. Like I said, I just need a place to live while I get settled with my job and all. Once I learn more about the area, I may find somewhere I like better.

My apartment isn't going to be ready until the 20th and I start the 17th. Can someone recommend an extended stay that won't break the bank that is in a good area? My HR lady recommended Residence Inn but it is way expensive. I don't want to spend half my signing bonus on a place to stay for a few days...I need furniture!!

I can't think of anywhere near downtown. Most extended stay places are way out on I-40 towards the Wolfchase mall area (about a 30-40 min drive in traffic to downtown). What a headache. I would just suck it up and stay downtown. If it's only 4 days, you could stay at the Sleep Inn, it's probably $80 a night during the week. 4 days isn't really an extended stay, that's more like a short vacation Residence Inn does have kitchens though, but 4 days, brand new to town...how much cooking would you be doing? I'd just stay at Sleep Inn and spend your evenings eating out and exploring downtown.

::sigh:: the Sleep Inn is coming up at $110 a night. I'm planning on driving up Saturday and staying until Thursday when my apartment is ready. Thats a huge chunk out of my "signing bonus".

Ahh the Saturday is the problem; I imagine if you weren't staying a weekend night, it would be cheaper. Can you come up Sunday instead? Are you bringing things with you, or just waiting until the following weekend once you have the apt?
