I would also explain this to your future employer and see if they can help you. Any major company should be willing to comp a little something for you.

Well,I was planning on coming on Saturday. I could stay with my BF's parents that night. My employer knows this is what I'll be doing---I'm assuming they think I'll use the signing bonus.

You might want to specifically ask them if they give new employees moving expense payment. If you're working for a small company though, they probably do want you to use your own money. But it would be worth asking.
That reminds me...your bf does not live here, or he used to? Maybe he has a friend you could stay with for a few days?

Well, he's moving back this weekend. I may stay at his parents' house Saturday to avoid a weekend rate. It just gets cramped with both of us there and they are a ways out from work.
The 1000 is for "moving expenses".

Oh, well there you go. They are paying for your moving expenses then. That's part of the signing bonus sometimes....if you are local, you can pocket the money. If you're from elsewhere, that is their nice was of paying for your moving expenses without having a company policy for it. Then no one else later can say "well so-and-so had her moving expenses paid!"
None of my business of course, but if your bf is moving to Memphis this weekend too...why didn't you get an apt together where you could pool money and get something really nice instead of having to search so hard for a small place in a tight budget?

Well, none of our parents would approve. 2)I've always wanted my own little apartment, and 3)We plan on getting married(no time soon) and don't want to live together before then.

Ahh okay, well, you could always get a hotel in the suburbs for a lot less and then drive in your first week, but what a nightmare would that be for a new resident! Traffic is horrible and parking downtown can be a mess if you aren't familiar with the area. Comfort Inn downtown is also relatively cheap.

I'll probably end up staying out further for those first few days. I mean, no matter what, Thursday night I'm staying in my apt. It may be on an air mattress, but thats where I'll be! As far as parking, I'll be paying a monthly fee for a deck next to work.
