Nope, but I don't live in Memphis,tn. Just about every post of mine you have posted rudely.

I didn't know you had to type correct grammar, I guess.

I was actually looking for helpful information.

I don't believe I answered rudely. I just don't think your question makes a lot of sense. Olive Branch butts right up to Memphis. Whereas Somerville is way out in the sticks, generically put. So to say "is Somerville safe, or is it too close to Memphis..." well that doesn't make sense. "Memphis" is not unsafe. Certain areas of Memphis are bad, of course, but not all of it. I'm just saying, you currently live closer to Memphis than Somerville is....so if you aren't "too close" then why would Somerville be?

I'm not trying to be rude, but you live in the area. I don't understand how someone who lives in the area thinks that 100% of the city is horrible and unsafe. There are a lot of safe, beautiful, well-kept, and upscale areas of the city. There are a lot of mid-range middle class areas, and well-kept lower-middle class areas. We're not all shooting guns and selling drugs here.

And I don't recall saying anything about your grammar. ????

So fine, is Somerville safe: yes.

I am sure that there are areas that are safe , that is why I have asked questions on this forum about areas. Where I lived in Mobile,AL there was not as much crime.

I've been to Covington pleanty of times and I would never want to live there even though it's far from Memphis. It's a small town but some parts remind me alot of the inner city. There is a lot of crime there and I even saw something on the news a while back about a drug and prositution problem there. So i'm not saying that Somerville is like Covington, but please don't assume that further away from Memphis means it's better.
I know that did not come out right. I didn't know that there were "gangsta" towns out in the country. But I'm sure you are right. From what I hear there is a difference between Fayette and Tipton. Alot of people from Memphis are moving to Fayette, getting away from crazy taxes and the pace of a big city.
There live about 3000 people in Somerville, so I find it hard to imagine the crime even being close to what you experience in Memphis.
But anyway, you are surdenly right, it doesn't equal being safe. But then again, where are you safe if you look at it like that?

I drive through Somerville when going to Memphis. It is so small I can't see any major crimes going on there. It is a speed trap though. The speed limit going through town is 30. It is very hard for me to go 30 so needless to say I have had a speeding ticket. The police officers were friendly though.

Yes, I would say that Covington is a gangsta country town. No, it's not as bad as Memphis, but it's worse than most other small towns around here. The median household income is $24,000. I'm not saying that poor equals crime, but sometimes it does. The city data crime index number for 2006 was 555 which is more than twice the national average of 239. Lots of small towns have a drug problem, but not many small towns have prositutes walking up and down the streets. Just go visit Covington and you'll see that it looks like the inner city and a small town fused into one.

What I know about Somerville is a small redneck town that is close enough to Memphis for food and hospital but far enough you don't want to drive in every day. (I mean no disrespect to my fellow rednecks. I lived in Moscow while I was pregnant) Personally I would rather live in Memphis, crime and all, than Somerville but I grew up within the city so to me it isnt all bad.

My parents live in Oakland, which is not far from Somerville...I've driven to Somerville quite a few times and also know some people who live there...if you're looking for a more rural environment and don't have to worry about putting kids into a school then I would say it's a nice place to live (Fayette County schools don't have the best reputation-though i suspect as Nonconnah gets finished through and more people leave Shelby County for Fayette the schools will get better). Somerville does have a small hospital by the way. You could also look around Piperton or Rossville then you would be closer to Collierville (restaurants and such). Somerville is kinda out there unless you are close to I40.

Your neighborhood is patrolled 24/7 by a private security force.

That would make a significant difference in one's perception of safety.
