Positive Things About Memphis (few and far between, but they do exist!)
Since the local cheerleaders, think I'm being too harsh on this dump, I'm bored and decided to list a few good things Memphis has going.
1. Autozone Park & the Redbirds
2. The Memphis Zoo
3. Harbor Town
4. It has good medical facilities
5. Downtown is compact, several things to do, and has a trolley.
6. umm...There are casinos less than 30 minutes away.
7. uhh.... uhh... The grammar and antics of people interviewed on the news is funny.
8. The I-40 bridge is pretty?
9. Really getting difficult...
10. I should have stopped at 5...

Moderator cut: cut text
Moving here was the biggest regret I've had in my life. I think people need to get both the good and the bad, to help form their own decisions.
Because whether or not some people want to accept it or not, the image of Memphis romanticized in popular culture and the arts is nothing like the reality of the place.

Yeah, I know. People think it's all blues, bar-b-que and Elvis. I've lived here my whole life, unfortunately. I've been trying to leave but my job pays well and I gotta find a job that at least pays this much. Thank God I don't have any children yet. Funny thing is I know why Memphis is this way. But I still wonder WHY did Memphis have to be this way. Just a little background info on me, I work for Shelby County Sheriff's Dept. Sadly, the crime here will only get worse. The future of this city is very dismal. There's an excessive amount of ignorance in the black communities here. That makes it hard for people like myself to not be stereotyped by non-blacks. It sucks hard.

I feel ya London. That's what I'm trying to fight here. I know not all blacks are like this. In fact I don't get the impression I get here, from anywhere else I've been. I'm glad I'm not the only who has noticed the black community (majority, not all) here is different from most parts of the country.
Incidentally, I'm with MPD. lol

It's like Lt. Harvey stated
"Here in Memphis we have maximum tolerance and zero prisoner retention, which is why it is so dangerous to live here! "

Hey Deck:
As I said previously, my house got robbed last week. MPD came and took fingerprints and I haven't heard anything since. Do I contact them or what?

Deck, we're outta here, ASAP. London, if you're in law enforcement I would think you could find a job that pays comparably elsewhere. We're going back to Maine where they think that the seven homicides in the state for the entire year (Jan-March) is just downright disgusting. They have no clue. I grew up in Maine and realize that crime here is very bad. But it's bad elsewhere, too. I lived in DC in the 80s and it was known as the murder capital of the country. Detroit and Baltimore have bad crime problems.
There ARE good things about Memphis, but the bad things overshadow them. The cost of housing here is incredible. We bought a house with 3 bedrooms, two baths and an inground pool for $120,000. That house would be $250,000 to $275,000 in Maine. The music scene is great. Love the casinos. Shelby Farms is a gem. The road infrastructure (not 240 or 40) is great. Great Mexican restaurants. I'm sitting here trying to think what I will miss when I move, and I can't think of any more.

Sadly, London is right. I wouldn't get my hopes up about those turds getting caught, for a variety of reasons.
Even though they attempted, they might not have gotten a usable print. If they did, there is a chance they might not be in the database.
There is a good chance the crime was committed by juveniles, and those prints aren't kept on file. Even if they were, juveniles get an even lighter slap on the wrist than adults in Shelby County.
This department is bogged down with these kind of crimes. It's a shame that the city doesnt enforce penalties against all these bogus 911 calls. We are called to some locations multiple times every single day. Morale is at an all time low. This shouldn't have any effect, but the truth is, it does.
This city is run on who-you-know, who has dirt on you, corruption. The voters have had multiple chances to turn things around, but don't. They like things the way they are. I was personally embarassed as our Director stood up there grinning and nodding with the Mayor on election night, blasting the white citizens of Memphis for not voting for him. The overwhelming majority of this department hates Godwin, and have basically shut down doing any proactive policing. It doesn't take long to figure out, proactive policing, only leads to complaints from these ghetto criminals, and get's you falsely accused, and puts you through a bunch of B.S. This department is not on the same page. There are a few pro-Godwin cronies, who have been put in good positions and are looked after vs. the other 85% of the department. There is the tension at our association, because of the heated Association elections last fall, which futher divided the department. Well now we know why, those who had been in power there for years, were stealing money from all of us, for their own personal gain, and Godwin's interference to try and keep our new president out of the office, may have been to try and help keep his friends that were in power over there from getting caught.
There are more criminals or flat-out stupid people in this city than there are good, honest people.
Short Answer: They should call you regardless, but if it's been over 2 weeks, I'd have no hesitation giving them a call. Do you know your report number?
